Batman 3D

Watch out for that Batarang!

Our friends at ign report that Director Christopher Nolan and his director of photography Wally Pfister are mulling shooting all of Batman 3 in either 3D or IMAX.

Cinematical's Todd Gilchrist chatted with Pfister last week at a Dallas Film Society awards ceremony, during which time the Oscar-nominated cinematographer talked up the visual game plan for the highly anticipated sequel to The Dark Knight.

"What Chris and I have talked about is doing something cool and something interesting," Pfister told the site. "[Director] Brad Bird was [saying] 'you've got to shoot the whole thing in IMAX!' I was like, yeah, I've talked to Chris about that." Pfister believes, though, that the camera technology required to shoot an entire movie in IMAX may be too difficult to pull off.

Pfister also said the idea of shooting Batman 3 in the suddenly popular 3D format is under consideration. "I think Chris is game for doing something interesting like that, Lord knows that the 3-D fad might pass by the time that summer comes around," said Pfister. He added that one thing that is certain about Batman 3 is that it will be shot on film and not video.

Poor Man's Batcave

Not really. Your friends at Gfest wouldn't define poverty as a $10,000 pre-fab WorkPod.

Bruce Wayne may consider this deluxe hut/shanty a gigantic step down from the sprawling caves of Gotham, but us non-billionaires find it to be a sanctuary worthy of the title "Batcave."  Albeit, a little pricey for a batcave (your basement or your parents basement might do just fine without the $10,000 price-tag).

If you have some pocket change laying around burning a whole in your pocket, you can find out more information and view more pictures of the WorkPod at ecospace studios.

Captain America Has Never Looked so Good

As you probably know by now if you're a loyal member of our family, the crew at Gfest loves comic book art.  From the greatness of Jim Lee, Alex Ross, Gary Frank, Bruce Timm, Jack Kirby, George Perez, Ethan Van Sciver, etc., we love to marvel at the pencils, ink, and colors of each and every page of our books.

Recently, we stumbled upon the simplistic yet stunning comic art of Rogan Josh.  It blew us away.

He accurately describes his art on his Etsy page as, "Fabulous art prints featuring your favorite spandex-clad super heroes that are so classy, you don't have to hide them away under the mattress with the rest of your comic book collection when you have guests."

Gfest couldn't agree more.  Check it out here it's worth the click.

Luke Skywalker and the Joker Team-up to Make Movie

Is Luke Skywalker himself—Mark Hamill—getting ready to direct a movie based on his own darkly satiric crime comic book?

That's the suggestion on The Wrap, which caught up with Hamill at a panel at Los Angeles Comedy Shorts Festival recently.

Hamill, who directed the 2004 documentary "Comic Book: The Movie" and has done considerable voice over work (including an acclaimed turn as the Joker in "Batman: The Animated Series"), told the audience at the Downtown Independent Theater he was ready to go on a project that he'd been trying to get off the ground for some time.

GFEST Must Buy Comic Books of the Week

Jeff Smith's fast paced sci-fi thriller about an inter-dimensional art thief continues in this action-packed graphic novel. The secrets of RASL's technology and his hidden past are exposed when a mysterious lizard-faced stranger starts killing the art thief's girlfriends in multiple universes.

GFEST View: As a HUGE fan of Bone, I picked up the first volume of Rasl.  I waited for the first trade knowing that the single issues were coming out on an irregular basis.  While it takes a little bit of commitment to become engaged in the plot and begin to understand the premise, I found by the end of Volume one, I was excited to pick up Volume two.

DC Comics is pleased to present Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver's Green Lantern Rebirth in the slipcased, Absolute format. Follow Hal Jordan on his journey from fearless test pilot to Super Hero, from villain to the spirit of vengeance, and finally, returning to his true calling as Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814. This amazing Absolute edition includes Green Lantern: Rebirth #1-6, Green Lantern#1, the preview story from Wizard Magazine and a tale from Green Lantern Secret Files 2005 featuring spectacular artwork by Darwyn Cooke

GFEST View: I know, I know.  What is Gfest thinking? An Absolute Volume on the list?  We're not made of money.  We understand completely but this is a truly fantastic story with beautiful art that is riddled with Blackest Night innuendos.  Plus, holding an Absolute Edition in your hand is the closest thing to slow dancing with Megan Fox.  It's orgasmic!

Man Loses Finger in iPad Robbery

Some people think the new Apple iPad will cost them an arm and a leg.  Turns out it's only a finger. Bill Jordan found that out the hard way on his recent trip to the Apple store. Security cameras show that after Jordan left the store, two potential thieves were following him in hopes of snatching the shiny new iPad. With the bag containing the iPad tightly wrapped around his fingers, Jordan suddenly felt a sharp tug and looked around to see a thief pulling at the bag so hard that it stripped the skin off his finger.

Sexting a Growing Trend Among Senior Citizens

Roger isn't a teenager—or even a 20-something. He's a 59-year-old divorcé, and, thanks to his cell phone and a slew of sassy ladies, his love life is more interesting than ever, thanks to sexting.
Shocked?  Don't be. More and more of the 50+ set, both single and married, are using text messaging to spice up their sex lives. Seniors are taking advantage of the new technology because it's fast, easy, and fun.  "They want sexual activity," Blake explains. "They want to flirt. It makes them feel lively and young."

Jill, age 50, certainly feels fresh and vital when she sexts.  "It makes you a little more brave," she says. "It takes the fear away, your inhibitions. I might be a little more bold in a text message than I would be over the phone or in person."  Sexting also makes the South Carolina nurse, who's been divorced for 15 years and enjoys casual dating, feel as if she had a "naughty secret."

Eww.

My Fuehrer...We Have Been Shut Down

According to www.popeater.com, 'Hitler Reacts to...' -- that patron saint of YouTube memes -- seems to be on its way out. The clips, which dub a scene from the 2004 German-language film 'Downfall,' are being rapidly pulled by Constantin Films, which is claiming copyright infringement.

The film features Hitler (portrayed by Bruno Ganz), ensconced in his bunker, learning he cannot win the war. The viral video versions tweak the subtitles to have Hitler reacting explosively to current events, both mundane and massive, including Michael Jackson's death, Kanye West's VMAs incident and the Hollywood adaptation of 'Twilight.' All have been major YouTube hits.  Gfest!

Blockbuster Celebrates 420 Day with Free Give Away

Andy Brown, 30, bought his son a used copy of Fight Night Round 4 from a local Blockbuster and got a present that would make Willy Nelson jump for joy!

"He'd only been playing the game ten minutes when he came down with the bag in his hand and asked, 'Daddy, what's this?'" Brown told the Sun. "I checked and realized. I was horrified and took it off him straight away."
"They should be checking all the boxes before they sell them," Brown told the Sun. "What if he'd thought it was sweets, and started munching away? It doesn't bear thinking about."

Moral of the story:  don't hide your stash in anything that is on loan and must be returned. Gfest

That's it Betty, Take it all in Sweetheart.

Despite the strange and misleading headline, Gfest loves Betty White. How could you not?  She has to be one of the funniest female entertainers of all time and unlike most women, Betty gets better with age.  We cannot wait to see her on SNL next month.  We're off to go grab a Snickers bar and watch old game shows and Golden Girls reruns.

Recent Plague of Earthquakes a Result of Rise in Premarital Sex

Maybe we are just more nervous than the average gfester, but the recent string of earthquakes in the world is kind of scaring the crap out of us.  I was really beginning to worry that the Earth might be going Krypton on us and blowing up any minute.

But an Iranian cleric has cleared all that up.  Attractive women who dress inappropriately cause youth to go astray and "incite extramarital sex in society, which increases earthquakes"  Seems so obvious once you hear it doesn't it?

"Many women who dress inappropriately ... cause youths to go astray, taint their chastity and incite extramarital sex in society, which increases earthquakes," Aftab-e Yazd newspaper quoted him as saying at a Tehran prayer service late last week.

Side note - kind of funny to hear a religious cleric use the word taint.

Shaq Wins "War of the Supermen" with Dwight Howard

Siegel & Shuster Society Endoreses Shaq as NBA's true Superman

Shaquille O'Neal is the NBA's Superman. He was really big, all but invincible, and generally overpowering. And free throws are his kryptonite. But make no mistake, Shaq genuinely loves Superman. He has a Superman tattoo, a Superman bed, a Superman car. He even once delayed a championship parade so he could attend the premiere of Superman Returns.

New Trailer for Batman: Under the Red Hood Released

My excitement for the Red Hood movie just went down a little bit, maybe even a lot, but I'm trying not to overreact.  Yet it's hard not too.  Because at first blush, this is one of the worst Batman voices I've ever heard.

Can't we just give this role to Kevin Conroy until he dies?  Walt Disney was ALWAYS the voice of Mickey Mouse.  Jim Henson was ALWAYS the voice of Kermit the Frog.  Kevin Conroy should ALWAYS be the animated voice of Batman.

Norway's Prime Minister Stuck in NY Airport, Running Country from iPad

The prime minister of Norway is stuck in New York because of the volcanic cloud that has crippled travel worldwide.  The photo above was released by the Norwegian government in an effort to let the world now that their country's leader was still on the job.

He was also on his iPad.  Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg told CNN that he used the iPad to manage the consequences in Norway of the orders to close its airspace under threat from the ash.

Dan Didio's Run as Writer of the Outsiders is Officially a Failure

In January of this year, newly demoted co-publisher of DC Comics Dan Didio took over as writer of The Outsiders series, a team of superheroes who do not fit the norms of the mainstream superhero community, namely the Justice League of America.  But with three issues out so far, it's hard to categorize his efforts as anything but a failure.  Just look at the numbers:

  • In March 2009, The Outsiders had monthly sales of roughly 28,000 copies, which was a typical sales figure for the title.
  • In the wake of Batman's apparent death in Final Crisis, a new team of Outsiders was created, and the title was "relaunched" to great success.  Sales for the November release jumped to roughly 51,000.
  • One year later, in March 2010, Dan Didio's version saw sales of a mere 19,600 copies.

So Didio not only lost every single one of the new readers who jumped on board for the post Final Crisis reboot, he lost more than 40% of the traditional fan base who could be counted on to pick up the title month in and month out.

When Didio was doing his press tour in November regarding his taking over of The Outsiders title he said "If I felt that the book was not achieving, I would not be on that book. As simple as that. I'd cancel myself."

Since it seems that once again, Dan Didio has lied to the loyal fans of the DC Universe.  The only question left is will it be Jim Lee or Geoff Johns who gets to tell him he's fired
