Is This the World's Greatest Superhero Cake?
I understand that there is an entire subset of our culture that's really into fancy cakes. I confess that I don't really understand that culture, but I've seen the TV shows dedicated exclusively to extreme cake design as I flip around the channels on my TV.
Maybe I should give them a second chance, because this cake is the coolest thing I've ever seen. And how cool for Aquaman that he somehow made the cut.

Very Sexy Elena Satine to Play Mera (Aquaman's Wife) on SMALLVILLE
Mera makes her live-action debut on “Smallville” in October, this from Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly. Apparently, when Aquaman appears again, he’ll have already married his extra-dimensional sweetheart. Mera is being played by Elena Satine, a Russian-born actress known stateside for stints in “Melrose Place."

Aquaman's Advice to Michael Phelps About Marijuana
"Now pay attention dumb ass. Notice how Aquaman hits this without any cameras around us. Also, a secret that very few people know is that if you smoke enough you can actually talk to the fish"

McDonalds Releases New Masturbating Batman Toy in Happy Meals
Every guy in the world ends up playing with his little buddy every now and again. But what about the superheroes and villians of the DC Universe? Are they any different than the rest of us?
Does Aquaman flog his dolphin? Does Scarface beat the dummy? Does Lex Luthor make the bald guy puke? Does the Music Meister play the skin flute? Do the members of the Shadowpact spank their monkey? Sure they do. They all do. Hell, I'll even bet that Silver Age Flash still polishes his helmet every now and again.
But what about Batman? Bruce Wayne just goes and grabs himself a couple of Gothams loosest women when he gets the urges. But what about when he's Batman? Well, McDonald's seems to have answered that question for us with this new happy meal toy:

DC Releases huge BRIGHTEST DAY Cover Montage. Can You Spot the Hints?
In an effort to pump some life into an otherwise boring and incoherent story DC unveiled this beautiful BRIGHTEST DAY cover montage featuring all the key players in this "saga." The covers fit together into this massive piece of art that teases what may come out of this story. Click the image above to see it in all it's glory.
I could care less about the events that may or may not unfold in this series since to date it has been painfully underwhelming, but the art of this HUGE cover montage is wonderful. This colossal spread features figures by the very talented Ryan Sook, with additional artistry from Fernando Pasarin and Joel Gomez (and a guiding hand from Co-Publisher Jim Lee, natch)
DC's the Source teases, "what does it all mean? Too early to tell, but all the more reason to spend a few more minutes enlarging the image below." Do you care?

Comic Book University Looks Hilarious and Awesome
Caldwell Tanner has come up with a hilarious set of cartoons imagining what life on campus would look like with superhero co-eds. Gfest happens to think it looks awesome, hilarious and a lot of fun. We particularly love Batman running pledge week. I also think its strange that Superman apparently wears boxers underneath his briefs.

Collection of Sad Superheroes
These tearful superheroes are photographer Nicolas Silberfaden’s latest art project, as he attempts to depict “a sombre, striking visual image that contradicts the iconic nature of strength and moral righteousness typical in American superhero imagery.”
BJP-Online has a nice writeup about Nicolas Silberfaden, who recently gained attention photographing paparazzi by pretending to be one.
Now he’s showing the sad side of superheroes as way to portray the tough economic times that America is facing.
“Making the subjects pose in their costumes against a colourful backdrop, I ask them to manifest feelings of genuine sadness – honest emotions that are a consequence of our current times. Creating the illusion that Superman does exist – that he too was fallible and affected by America’s traumatic downturn.”

FIRST LOOK: BRIGHTEST DAY #7 - Why "the 12" Came Back
Geoff Johns promised that the answer to why "the 12" were resurrected at the end of BLACKEST NIGHT would be revealed in BRIGHTEST DAY #7. This series, thus far, has been a disappointment for me. I was hoping for a weekly series on par with 52, but unfortunately it has not lived up that standard. I am not giving up on this series because Johns and Tomasi are two of the best writers in comics. Let's hope the "big reveal" on Wednesday gives this story the boost it needs to keep all our interests. Enjoy the preview of BRIGHTEST DAY #7 below.

FIRST LOOK: DC Direct BRIGHTEST DAY Action Figures
In March 2011, DC DIRECT will kick off another series of
high-quality and story-specific product, this time based around the hit
biweekly series, BRIGHTEST DAY. Here ist a first look at the first two
waves, which include Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Deadman, Aquaman, Hawkman,
Martian Manhunter, Firestorm and Mera.
As an obsessed action figure collector, I am surprisingly lukewarm about the BRIGHTEST DAY line. The story thus far has been in my opinion, less than engaging so I have hard time purchasing a bunch of characters I could in all honesty give a shit about. I mean come on who is going to shell out money to purchase Mera?

Brightest Day #5 Variant Cover & Preview
Another issue of Brightest Day hits the shelves tomorrow. Below you will find a preview of the issue. I have to be honest anything that includes the Hawks and Aquaman bores the living daylights out me so I am less than thrilled with a Hawk & Aquaman focused story. I guess that is why I am less than thrilled with this story as a whole.
Synopsis: The mysteries deepen! What secret is Mera hiding? Where have Hawkman and Hawkgirl disappeared to? And what annoys Hawk the most about Deadman? Find out in this issue as we march closer towards the turning point of issue #7 as Hawk and Dove join the mission to uncover the truth behind their returns and what it means to the rest of the DCU! Here are a few pages from Brightest Day #5, all courtesy of the stellar team of Johns, Tomasi and the comic industry’s greatest artists.

First Look at Mattel Vintage/Retro DC Super Heroes Wave 2

You remember the Green Arrow figure in the Retro-Action DC line? Probably not because it sold-out so god damn quick nobody got one. Why wouldn't it? Gfest loves the look of the old MEGO figures from the 1970s.
Thankfully, Mattel realized the demand for these beautiful retro figures and will soon release a new wave. The company posted photos of the Wave 2 collection that features Batman, Two-Face, Aquaman, and Black Manta. (via matty collector)

The Justice League is Making Horrible Recruitment Decisions
Look the Justice League has seen some real hard times lately. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and J'onn J'onnz are all not currently on the team in the DC Comics Universe
. So the League is desperate for some real superheroes, because right now they're relying on Vixen to save the world.
Yet as you can see above they turned away Super Grover
for membership, who is not only one of the greatest superheroes to ever grace our planet, but has an amazing handle on the alphabet. So the Justice League chose Super Grover
over Aquaman. Well, I guess the letter of the day must be M - for morons.

Meet DC's Newest Character - Aqualad (we think it stinks too)
The Source, DC's Comic blog recently released some information about a new character that will become an integral part of Brightest Day and the DC Universe. This character will also appear in the New Young Justice animated series that will air on Cartoon Network. Naturally it's Aqualad.
I know you are all overwhelmed by this huge revelation. Gfest can't blame you for not caring. I barely care about Aquaman and now your shoving Aqualad down our throats.
To our disappointment, Aqualad’s story actually begins in a few short weeks in BRIGHTEST DAY #4. Apparently, he has no idea he’s about to become Aqualad. In fact, according to the Source, he lives in one of the driest places in America – Silver City, New Mexico.
WOW! YEA! WHO-HOO! We know nothing can makes this exciting.

Another BP Oil Casualty
Just when you think the oil spill in the gulf couldn't get any worse. Today, Gfest found out that the world lost an American Hero. Much like many of the sea creatures and native birds of the coast, Aquaman could not survive the dramatic effect the oil had on the sea.

A Home Fit for Aquaman - the King of Atlantis
Gfest loves big, HDTV, flat screen, wall mounted televisions, but what about a big, flat screen, wall mounted aquarium?
Your friends at gfest like fish aquariums (especially saltwater), but owning a large fish tank is not only expensive but also time consuming and a waste of space. While expense may still be an issue, space and time consumption are definitely not.
This Aquavista Panoramic Wall Aquarium comes with all the gear necessary for a tropical aquarium, including an automatic feeder, dual filtration, heater, air pump, lighting, and a carbon dioxide generator, all of which is controlled via a side-mounted, touchscreen LCD. Available in 5-foot, 20 gallon and 6-foot, 25 gallon models.
This tank could even make Aquaman cool!
