First Look At "Superman/Shazam: The Return Of Black Adam" DC Animated Movie

"DC Showcase" animated shorts have been a very pleasant surprise for all the DC Animated fans.  The Spectre (my favorite), Jonah Hex and Green Arrow have been released thus far as a bonus to a DC Animated full length feature.

As we reported earlier all the "DC Showcase" animated shorts being collected and released next week on DVD and Blu-Ray. What's even nicer, however, is that the collection comes with the brand new animated short Superman/Shazam: The Return Of Black Adam.

Thanks to The Splash Page we have the ability to watch an exclusive clip from "Superman/Shazam" to get you psyched for its release next week.

Superman/Shazam: The Return Of Black Adam features Jerry O’Connell as the voice of Captain Marvel, George Newbern as Superman, Arnold Vosloo ("The Mummy") as Black Adam, and veteran actor James Garner as The Wizard.

Enjoy the preview!

DC Entertainment Releases ALL STAR SUPERMAN TRAILER

MTV has gotten it's hands on the trailer for All Star Superman, the animated adaptation of the Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely comics considered by most Comic/Superman fans to be the finest hour yet for the Man of Steel.

The movie adaption rarely lives up to it's literary predecessor, so I am not disappointed in this trailer. While I would love to see the entire movie in Frank Quietly's beautiful work, I am a realist and understand this is not possible.

All Star Superman is one my favorite books, and I am very excited to see how Bruce Timm and the gang bring this book to life.  Enjoy the first trailer below.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse NEW Animated Clip & Images

Batman/Superman: Public Enemies was one of the best DC animated films to date and Gfest expects the follow-up animated movie Superman/Batman: Apocalypse to be even better. Batman, Superman, Supergirl and my all-time favorite Darksied - It don't get any better.

I was so excited that Warner Home Video released these images and a sneak peek from the upcoming Superman/Batman: Apocalypse animated movie. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy for Darkseid!

In Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor — leading Batman and Superman to encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.
Fan favorites Tim Daly (Private Practice) and Kevin Conroy (China Beach) return to their seminal roles as Superman and Batman, respectively. The celebrity-laden guest cast is headed by Andre Braugher (Men of a Certain Age) as the daunting Darkseid. Sci-Fi heroine Summer Glau (Serenity/Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) provides the voice of Supergirl, and seven-time Emmy Award winner Ed Asner (Up) reprises his Superman: The Animated Series/Justice League role as Granny Goodness.

Mark Millar Announces KICK ASS 2 Movie a Go!

Ain't It Cool News is reporting that KICK ASS 2 has been green-lit.  Apparently UK viewers that heard Mark Millar on Radio 5 announce that due to the crushing success of KICK ASS on DVD - that KICK ASS 2 has been greenlit.

We will have to do some more research to determine of this true, but DVD sales do drive business these days especially given the state of movie theaters (brought on by movie studio and the theaters themselves).

Hopefully the KICK ASS 2 comic will come out sometime in the near future.  On second thought I just want the second part of AMERICAN JESUS to be released sometime before I die.  I can wait on KICK ASS 2.

Green Lantern: Emerald Knight Next DC Animated Movie

Just a few weeks ago, we learned that DC's animation department was moving forward with their next two films: Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and Batman: Year One. To the dismay of many Green Lantern fans, it appeared that The Dark Knight had taken over their hero's film slot. That worry seems to be unfounded, however, with recent news from Warner Home Video highlighting Green Lantern's return to the animated venue with Green Lantern: Emerald Knights.

The title Emerald Knights should be familiar to Green Lantern fans. It was a six-issue comic series written by Ron Marz and Chuck Dixon, and later collected in trade paperback format. The story is this:

"When a young Hal Jordan is thrust forward in time, Kyle Rayner, the current Green Lantern, finds himself face to face with his legendary predecessor. Working together for the first and only time, the two Green Lanterns must find a way to defeat Sinestro and the villain that Hal is destined to one day become, Parallax. Joined by the JLA and Green Arrow in this adventure, Kyle must not only find away to defeat his enemies but also decide if his actions in the present will prevent Hal from going insane and killing many of the Green Lantern Corps in the past, or only make things worse."

Whether the animated film will follow the series' storyline exactly is uncertain at this point. Hopefully, with the 2010 Comic Con International just a few short weeks away, Lantern fans will received a few more tidbits of what to expect in this much anticipated film.

Avatar Has Now Crossed the $3 Billion Mark

Bluray.com is reporting that Avatar has now sold 6.2 million Blu-ray copies in the first three weeks since launch—that's a steady climb since the 2.7 million sold in the first four days.  On top of that, there's another 13.5 million in DVD sales.

Let's just take a second and mull over the money machine that is Avatar.  Let's be conservative and use the current price at Amazon for these items, even though most sales would have been for more than this price.

  • 6.2 million blu-rays at $19.99 each = $124 million

  • 13.5 million DVDs at $15.99 each = $216 million
  • Domestic Box Office = $748 million

  • International Box Office = $1.97 billion
Grand Total -- $3 billion dollars in sales so far.
Just to put those numbers in perspective, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight racked up 16 million sales of both Blu-ray and DVDs together.

James Cameron's epic is now the top-selling Blu-ray release of all time worldwide, and it has no signs of slowing down.

DC Animated Sadly Cancels Numerous BruceTimm Projects

As reported earlier this month by your friends at Gfest, numerous DC Animated Projects have been canceled due to the under-performance of Green Lantern: First Flight and the Wonder Woman movie.

What Gfest did not know is the severity of the animated cancellations. Wonder Woman's performance was so underwhelming, in fact, that DC Animated has sworn off doing any superheroine features for the foreseeable future. They were actually planning to do an adaptation of Batgirl: Year One, but that project’s been canceled, now.

Another project that’s been canceled is the adaptation of the"Judas Contract" storyline from Teen Titans.  Bruce Timm also stated in his interview with comicvine that the announced Aquaman feature has also been canceled.
