DC Comics Announces Ongoing BATMAN BEYOND Series!
My prayers have been answered. Long live Terry McGinnis. On Saturday morning at Fan Expo in Toronto, DC Entertainment continued
their panel schedule with the DC Universe panel, where they announced a BATMAN BEYOND ongoing series after the miniseries.
Now if we could just get Paul Dini to start developing another Batman Beyond Cartoo, life would be wonderful.

Best Comic Buy this Wednesday - BONE: TALL TALES Prequel, Prequel
Today we have the arrival of Jeff Smith's latest Bone-related project, Tall Tales ($10.99 paperback, $22.99 hardcover). My nine year old son has become obsessed with Bone. He basically worships the Red Dragon. This "new" book basically collects material most Bone aficionados have read before (namely the Stupid, Stupid Rat Tails series).
Bone: Tall Tales serves as a perfect introduction to the series for new readers, and it's a must-have for long-time Bone fans as well. This fun collection of stories of Casper-looking underdogs is perfectly titled, because each and every funny tale Smiley shares 'round the campfire is a tall one. The glossy full-colour illustrations will reel kids in, and the high-falutin' stories will keep them intrigued. The tale of Bone's birth is especially off-the-wall. My favorite tale is the final story, in which Bone gathers a hodgepodge group of woodland creatures, including an adorable fox, a shy turtle, a very put-upon monkey, and a guardian dragon named Stillman who quickly stole a little piece of my heart, to help him in a fight against the evil rat creatures.

FIRST LOOK: BRIGHTEST DAY #7 - Why "the 12" Came Back
Geoff Johns promised that the answer to why "the 12" were resurrected at the end of BLACKEST NIGHT would be revealed in BRIGHTEST DAY #7. This series, thus far, has been a disappointment for me. I was hoping for a weekly series on par with 52, but unfortunately it has not lived up that standard. I am not giving up on this series because Johns and Tomasi are two of the best writers in comics. Let's hope the "big reveal" on Wednesday gives this story the boost it needs to keep all our interests. Enjoy the preview of BRIGHTEST DAY #7 below.

Scott Pilgrim, Blackest Night dominate New York Times

Buoyed by the release last week of the final volume of Bryan Lee O'Malley's acclaimed series, and anticipation for the Aug. 13 debut of Edgar Wright's film adaptation, the Scott Pilgrim books claimed the top six spots on the paperback list, with Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour debuting at No. 1.
Meanwhile, on the hardcover list, five Blackest Night collections fell into place behind Evanovich's novel: Blackest Night: Black Lantern Corps, Vols. 1 and 2; Blackest Night; Blackest Night: Green Lantern; and Blackest Night: Green Lantern Corps.

Tony Daniel Takes over BATMAN Title
Tony Daniel will permanently take over as writer and artist on the regular BATMAN series. I have mixed emotions because Grant Morrison frustrated me immensely at times, but am indifferent to Tony's run thus far. I'm willing to stick with it and see what comes about this Fall and Winter. I am hoping for good things for the Bat family.
Quote from Tony for the The Source blog:
Quote from Tony for the The Source blog:
“I am thrilled and honored to be tapped for further writing duties on the world’s most iconic super hero, Batman. I look forward to telling exciting tales with the caped crusader and exploring old and new characters alike. I will continue to put my best foot forward on each and every page.”

iTunes is Helping the Printed Comic Book Market?
Entertainment chain Hastings will launch 127 direct market comic shops throughout the US in an effort to replace dwindling retail sales of music CD's due to digital downloads on iTunes.
By adding an expanded comics section to 127 of their existing stores, they're also set to become the largest retail buyers of comic books.

They have already implemented two test stores. These stores contain 32 feet of new comic releases, 32 feet of back issues, 44 feet of Manga and graphic novels, an expansion in action figures, role playing books, comic-related merchandise and supplies among other things. The tests were deemed a great success.
Gfest will admit that we did not see this coming at all. With the introduction of the iPad

First Look at Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #3 Preview

Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #3 hits the shelves tomorrow and Yanick Paquette steps into the artist’s chair and joins forces with writer Grant Morrison to tell a pirate’s tale – featuring our hero, a time-lost Bruce Wayne, struggling to find his way back home as some of his own friends struggle to prevent it from happening.
Gfest has been a little disappointed thus far with this series. Although, in typical Grant Morrison fashion he takes the reader on a long and confusing journey prior to providing the "pay-off." Let's hope the Scottish James Robinson knows has a plan to tie this story together that will fit into the DC Universe. By fit into the DC Universe, Gfest means make Bruce Wayne Batman again!

Marvel Declares Nude Recreation Day is Now X-MEN Day
Marvel is releasing X-MEN #1 on July 8, the first X-MEN #1 in almost 20 years, so they took it upon themselves to just rename July 8th X-Men Day. Problem is that our country was already scheduled to celebrate Nude Recreation Day on July 8th, so that takes some real balls on Marvel's part to try and steal it away.

Unique and Stunning Comic Book Art and Illustrations

Gfest was fortunate to come across the website of Christopher Uminga an artist from New Haven, CT. His unique style of art puts a twist on various comic book heroes we have known throughout our lifetime. These paintings are simply superb.
As an avid collector of comic art, Gfest can honestly say, we have nothing like it in our collection. Gfest will definitely change this error very soon.
Head on over to Christopher Uminga site or his deviantArt page to view and purchase this extraordinarily original art. To see more of Christopher's incredible paintings click o read more.
Vertigo Comics Fables TV Ad on BBC America
Gfest loves Bill Wilingham's Fables. Gfest has read every single issue of all Fables, Fables: 1001 Nights of Snowfall, Jack of Fables, Great Fables Crossover, Peter & Max, and Cinderella From Fabletown with Love. When we stumbled upon this television ad for Fables it was extremely exciting. Gfest had never seen a bona fide television commercial for a graphic novel. Have you?
