NBC Cancels Heroes - Time Travel on TV Fails Again

Fire the Cheerleader.  Save the Network.

It's official: "Heroes" has finally been put out of its misery. NBC announced that they are canceling the superhero drama, whose ratings dropped from an average of 14.5 million viewers in its first season to mere 4.4 million during its last airing on February 8th.

Entertainment Weekly called the news "shocking" which makes me question why I would ever read that magazine again.  Well, to be fair, I was shocked by the news.  I was shocked to learn the show hadn't already been cancelled.

NBC Cancels Law and Order After 20 Seasons

MSNBC is reporting that NBC (wonder how they got the exclusive?) will not renew the original "Law & Order" at the upcoming conclusion of its 20th season, leaving it tied with "Gunsmoke" as the longest-running scripted show in television history.  The show won the Emmy for Best Drama in 1997.

The cancellation was confirmed Thursday by a person close to the show's production. The final episode will air May 24.

Steve Carell Quits His "Office" Job

Steve Carell plans to exit his Golden Globe-winning role as paper company manager Michael Scott on NBC’s The Office once the show’s seventh season on NBC wraps in 2011.

In a BBC Radio interview this week, promoting Carell’s new comedy Date Night, the comedian, 47, revealed that his contract with the NBC sitcom only runs through season seven and it looks unlikely that he’ll opt to stay on longer.

“I don’t think so. I think that will probably be my last year,” Carell replied when quizzed on his possible future with the series.

The actor certainly won’t be basking in retirement when he bids “Happy Trails” to The Office — Carell reportedly has 10 comedy movie projects in the works.
