'True Blood‘s' Manganiello Confirms He's Spoken to (or Begged) WB About Playing Superman

With the news that Zack Snyder won the race to direct the newest Superman movie — produced by Christopher Nolan, written by David S. Goyer, and aiming for a holiday 2012 release — now comes the next, biggest round of wild media speculation: Who should don the Man of Steel’s red and blue tights?

Tom Welling (my first choice), John Hamm, Dwayne Johnson (absurd), Brandon Routh, John Cena are just a few that have been rumored to play the most powerful man on the planet.

No it appears we can add another name to the list, True Blood's Joe Manganiello. (Full disclosure, I don't watch True Blood so it is difficult for me to speak about Manganiello's acting credentials.  My buddies tell me I should watch True Blood because it has hot women, nudity and vampires which is a pretty damn good trifecta.)

According to MovieHole Manganiello has been telling anyone with a set of ears since late spring how badly he wants to play Superman for Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan. Now, according to True-Blood.net, Manganiello once again revealed his desire to hang on a wire harness for hours on end as the Man of Steel at a convention this past weekend.  He, however, added a bombshell – he's actually met with the filmmakers this time.

Not too long after word spread of his candidacy, he clarified the matter on Twitter with these remarks:
"Just to be clear... as of today, I am not 'negotiating' to play SuperMan"
"...but keep your fingers crossed and thanks for the wishful thinking!"
Another day another rumor about the Superman reboot.  What do you think about Joe Manganiello being the next Man of Steel?

Laura Vandervoort from SMALLVILLE is one Sexy Supergirl

Smallville began it's 10th and final season last week.  For the few still watching Smallville much discussion has taken place about the final season.  Will Clark finally put on the suit?  Will he actually fly? Will the world finally see Superman?  How will Darkseid be portrayed?  Will Lois and Clark finally get together? Hopefully for the Smallville faithful these questions and many others will be answered by season end.

Now, we can move past the details of the show and focus on the important aspects of the Superman mythology - such as Supergirl.  The CW sent out some new pictures of Laura Vandervoort looking fantastically sexy as Supergirl.  She is obviously going to make an appearance during the final season of Smallville . Maybe the network finally realized (albeit too late) how to increase male viewers to this show.  Enjoy Laura's photos from the show as well as a few others I threw in for your enjoyment (and mine).

Smallville: Official Detailed Description of Season 10 (Return of Pa Kent & the Darkseid Invasion)

In the midst of this turmoil, a new danger will emerge as a dark force takes on many faces, threatening Clark at every turn. Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), and Jonathan Kent (John Schneider), Clark's late, adopted father - forever and always Clark's moral compass, will stand by Clark's side as he takes his final steps toward accepting his birthright. He will need all the help he can get to fight the impending evil onslaught...the greatest darkness ever unleashed on Earth.
The season ten premiere, "Lazarus," opens mere seconds after last season's finale. Clark Kent wakes from his near-death experience, haunted by the ghosts of his past, both friend and foe. Given a new lease on life, Clark must find a way to rid himself of every last temptation, to purge himself of every last shard of doubt in his heart before he can become the beacon of hope the world needs. But a very real threat from Clark's past has returned to challenge his ascent, causing Clark to question the nature of his crusade.

Lois Lane will face her own crisis of meaning, trying to redefine her place in the world now that she knows Clark's super secret - but Clark won't discover that she knows, and that's the way she wants to keep it. Lois will try her best to keep the mild-mannered reporter at arms' length in the hopes that a life free of romantic complication will make him a better hero.
Struggling with her own affairs of the heart, Chloe Sullivan will be faced with an impossible question - how much is she truly willing to sacrifice to protect the people she loves? Chloe will take a tumultuous step into danger for the greater good, the hands of Fate, her only guide.

When Chloe vanishes, Oliver Queen will be forced to look long and hard at the circumstances behind it. Blaming himself for her disappearance, Oliver will begin exploring accountability for all his past actions, good and bad - what great lengths will Oliver go to in order to bring his lost love back home?
Having risked her own life in an attempt to become accountable for her own misguided actions, no one is more surprised than Tess Mercer when she wakes, alive and well, in a seemingly abandoned medical facility. But what secrets lie in wait in the recesses of "Cadmus Labs"? And how much is Tess willing to give up to seize her second chance at redemption?

Lastly, Two guest stars have been revealed for the third season 10 episode of Smallville titled "Supergirl" if not sooner.  Michael Daingerfield will be playing Gordon Godfrey in the upcoming season and Steve Byers will be playing Darkseid minion Desaad.

SMALLVILLE Selects Hawkgirl and Deadshot Actors

Smallville is continuing to do what we want the most - more DCU characters. If he ain't gonna fly or wear the suit (which is going to change - please make it so) you have to give me lots of characters within the DCU to wet my appetite. To it's credit, Smallville has interject many characters over the last few years: Green Arrow, Aqualad, Flash, Steel, Doomsday and a few JSU characters.

Kryptonsite.com has reported that actors have been cast as notable DC characters Floyd Lawton and Shayera – AKA Deadshot and Hawkgirl

Playing Shayera will be Sahar Biniaz, a beauty pageant contestant who Kryptonsite notes had small roles in three previous Smallville episodes and in Watchmen. It's not clear if we'll see Shayera's Hawkgirl alter-ego in the episode she appears in, "Shield", which is the second of the season. That episode will also feature Michael Shanks reprising his role as Carter Hall, AKA Hawkman. Also still in question is whether Shayera will appear in the present or only in flashbacks. The character was previously referred to in the two-hour "Absolute Justice" episode, which introduced the Justice Society.

"Shield" will also introduce Deadshot, played by Bradley Stryker. Fans of The OC may remember Stryker as the first actor to play Ryan's brother, Trey, in Season 1 (Logan Marshall-Green played Trey in later appearances). Stryker also played a soldier on the first few episodes of Stargate Universe.

Hawkgirl and Deadshot are just two of several new DC characters set to debut in Smallville: Season 10, including Darkseid, Blue Beetle and Booster Gold.

Super Girl Returns to Smallville and Looks Sexy Than Ever

Laura Vandervoort has been confirmed as returning to CW’s Smallville for at least one episode of the final season.
Vandervoort will again play Kara Zor-El, cousin to Tom Welling’s Clark Kent and the would-be Supergirl,  last seen in the series’ eighth season heading off in search of the Kryptonian city of Kandor.
About time, I was getting sick of looking at Chloe.

CW Confirms that Tess Mercer Will be Back on Smallville

The CW has announced that Smallville's nest season will be its last, but it also made a couple of other surprising casting announcements.  Chloe is gone, and Tess Mercer is back.  She got better.

The CW press release lists Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Justin Hartley and Cassidy Freeman as the four series regulars for season 10. Cassidy certainly is a surprise, as Tess Mercer was pretty clearly dead at the end of season 9, but the mysterious knitting Granny in the hall who slipped into her hospital room must have delivered her some Goodness to help her recover from that dreaded 24 death that's going around.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Allison Mack will not be a series regular for season 10, though she will return to wrap up Chloe's storyline.

Chloe Sullivan is FINALLY gone from Smallville

Allison Mack Is Leaving Smallville.  Good lord does it feel good to type that.  Like real, real good.

The CW also announced that Smallville's upcoming 10th season will be its last one, and it will end without one of its original stars. According to Entertainment Weekly, Mack will not be a series regular for season 10, though she will return to wrap up Chloe's storyline, and hopefully die a very painful death.

Gfest has never liked the addition of Chloe, as she was a brand new character to the Superman universe, mainly because of the writers have never known what to do with her, except make her suck of course.  For instance, she's currently Oracle.  That tells you that the writers just gave up trying to figure out what to do with her, and just openly copied Barbara Gordon's character.   Chloe will not be missed.

Mack is the only original cast member left other than Tom Welling.
