First Look at Cartoon Network's Green Lantern Animated Series at NYCC 10

Here's your first look at Green Lantern: The Animated Series, coming to Cartoon Network in 2011. Warner Bros. Animation, which is producing the show, will preview the upcoming DC Comics adaptation for fans at this weekend's New York Comic Con at the Jacob K. Javits Center on Manhattan's West Side.

Executive producer Bruce Timm — whose infinite credits include the beloved animated series starring Batman, Superman and the Justice League — will headline the panel on Saturday at 2:30pm, alongside producer Giancarlo Volpe (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and producer/story editor Jim Krieg (Ben 10: Alien Swarm). Following the panel, from 4:00 to 5:00pm, the team will be signing posters (with this image) at the DC Comics booth.

Green Lantern, one of DC's most popular superheroes, is a member of an intergalactic police force dedicated to protecting the universe. He wields a power ring that can create hard-light constructs of any object he imagines.

It will be a big year for the character, who also headlines a feature film, opening June 17, 2011 with Ryan Reynolds in the title role.

DC Entertainment Releases ALL STAR SUPERMAN TRAILER

MTV has gotten it's hands on the trailer for All Star Superman, the animated adaptation of the Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely comics considered by most Comic/Superman fans to be the finest hour yet for the Man of Steel.

The movie adaption rarely lives up to it's literary predecessor, so I am not disappointed in this trailer. While I would love to see the entire movie in Frank Quietly's beautiful work, I am a realist and understand this is not possible.

All Star Superman is one my favorite books, and I am very excited to see how Bruce Timm and the gang bring this book to life.  Enjoy the first trailer below.

Why DC Needs Ben Caldwell's Manga Wonder Woman

For me Wonder Woman's finest hour came when George Perez was writing her stories. Perez's books were captivating and he had a way of making Wonder Woman seem fresh and exciting. Unfortunately, after Perez left the book, DC seemed to regulate the Amazon Princess to a second tier character. In my mind, she was only a relevant and/or exciting character when she was involved with the Trinity (Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman). Her stand alone books seemed boring, meaningless and without relevancy to anything of substance going on in the DCU.

Then came Bruce Timm and the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited cartoon series. Timm's stories made Wonder Woman once again a fantastic character full of heroics and humanism. He walked the line very well with Diane making her one of my favorite characters on the show. She wasn't just relevant within the Trinity, she was relevant in her own right.  Diane was powerful, smart, compassionate, beautiful, humorous, intimidating and kind.
Recently, cartoonist Ben Caldwell's fresh, new take on Wonder Woman has circulated in and around the Internet.  Caldwell bring us a young and hip and continuity free, Wonder Woman packaged in a digest size format. His Wonder Woman is very cartoony (think Skottie Young) with a skew toward the generally female friendly Manga style.

DC needs to take a good hard look (or another good hard look) at Caldwell's take on the Amazon Princess.  In my opinion, this new look and story(s) will bring in new young readers and bring back those of us that have always enjoyed Wonder Woman but have lost faith in her stories over the years.
I have posted some of Caldwell's Wonder Woman art that has been floating around the Internet for your enjoyment.  Please take a look and let me know if you agree with me that his take could re-energize this once fantastic character.

First Look at the Jonah Hex Short Animated Film

MTV has provided the first look at the Jonah Hex animated short.  While you would think it would be impossible for it to be worse than Megan Fox's Jonah Hex, this preview clip doesn't inspire much hope.

The clip is just a little over one minute long, and the first half entails nothing more than Jonah Hex riding a horse and not speaking a word.  Seriously.

Bruce Timm's DC Animation Department is including the Jonah Hex Short in with the Batman: Under the Red Hood Movie.  That movie looks awesome, and we were already buying that, so at least the Jonah short won't cost us any additional money.  But it doesn't look at this point like the Jonah Hex short will come close to matching the first short animated film of The Spectre.

The First Clip from Gfest Lifetime Acheivment Award Winner Bruce Timm's Batman: Under the Red Hood is now available for the world to see.  Again, any Batman that isn't Kevin Conroy is still a crime in our book, but Bruce Greenwood isn't half bad.

Batman's First JLA Audition

My God this the closest thing to a real batman that Gfest have ever seen.  I mean this kid looks like Bruce Timm drew him and he is a scene from the JLU series.  Pure Awesome!

You can see more of this kid's fantastic videos by going to his YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/azoazotube

Batman Year One Animated Movie is Coming!

According to Comics Continuum, "Batman: Year One" is being adapted as one of Warner Home Video's DC Universe animated movies. Sam Liu was cited as the director of the project, who also directed Hulk Vs., "Planet Hulk," "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" and co-directed "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths."

Bruce Timm earlier this year hinted that we would be seeing more of the animated films featuring Batman and Superman because sales of Wonder Woman and Green Lantern First Flight were a bit underwhelming.  An adaptation of "Batman: Under The Red Hood" is already slated to be the next DC animated movie.

"Batman: Year One" was published by DC Comics in 1987. The story took place in the early days of Batman's career.  The story is considered one of the most influential Batman stories ever, with "Batman: The Long Halloween" serving as an unofficial sequel.

DC Animated Sadly Cancels Numerous BruceTimm Projects

As reported earlier this month by your friends at Gfest, numerous DC Animated Projects have been canceled due to the under-performance of Green Lantern: First Flight and the Wonder Woman movie.

What Gfest did not know is the severity of the animated cancellations. Wonder Woman's performance was so underwhelming, in fact, that DC Animated has sworn off doing any superheroine features for the foreseeable future. They were actually planning to do an adaptation of Batgirl: Year One, but that project’s been canceled, now.

Another project that’s been canceled is the adaptation of the"Judas Contract" storyline from Teen Titans.  Bruce Timm also stated in his interview with comicvine that the announced Aquaman feature has also been canceled.

Captain America Has Never Looked so Good

As you probably know by now if you're a loyal member of our family, the crew at Gfest loves comic book art.  From the greatness of Jim Lee, Alex Ross, Gary Frank, Bruce Timm, Jack Kirby, George Perez, Ethan Van Sciver, etc., we love to marvel at the pencils, ink, and colors of each and every page of our books.

Recently, we stumbled upon the simplistic yet stunning comic art of Rogan Josh.  It blew us away.

He accurately describes his art on his Etsy page as, "Fabulous art prints featuring your favorite spandex-clad super heroes that are so classy, you don't have to hide them away under the mattress with the rest of your comic book collection when you have guests."

Gfest couldn't agree more.  Check it out here it's worth the click.

And the next DC Animated film shorts are...

Justice League Crisis on Two Earths also included a short story feature on the Spectre. Now we are suckers for the Spectre, but that short was freakin' awesome! It was so popular in fact that DC Showcase animated shorts will now be included on all future DC Universe direct-to-DVD animated releases.

Leaked market research by Warner Brothers suggests these are the following under consideration:

CATWOMAN When Catwoman comes to the rescue of a cat being shot at by thugs, a ribbon tied to the cat's collar becomes a clue that leads her into Gotham's salacious underworld. There Catwoman uncovers an international slavery ring, which she has to bring down to save its victims, including the cat's owner. Written by famed Batman scribe Paul Dini. Rated PG-13.

LOBO Lobo, the grungiest, most self-centered interstellar mercenary this side of the Milky Way, has his hands full when he reluctantly accepts the assignment of delivering a baby to the royal family of a distant planet. He can't understand why forces are trying to stop him, until he completes his delivery and discovers that the baby is really an intergalactic assassin intent of destroying the royal king. Rated PG-13.

GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT What if Bruce Wayne had been born in Victorian Times? That's the question posed by "Gotham by Gaslight," which features a turn-of-the-century Batman trying to track down a Jack the Ripper killer on the foggy, cobblestone streets of Gotham City. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel. Rated PG-13.

GREEN ARROW While at the airport to pick up his girlfriend Black Canary, Green Arrow comes head-to-head with some of his greatest enemies who are intent on assassinating a newly arrived young princess from America. Rated PG-13.

BOOSTER GOLD/BLUE BEETLE In a parody of a buddy cop movie, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are on surveillance duty, watching the apartment building of a diabolical scientist. When they inadvertently make their presence known, the scientist activates the weapon he's been hiding, a giant doomsday robot, which is set to go off like a ticking bomb unless our heroes can figure out a way to stop it. Rated PG-13.

JONAH HEX The tough-as-nails bounty hunter Jonah Hex always gets his man - until someone else gets to him first - in this case a murderous madam who wants to steal more than just his bounty from Jonah Hex. Based on a story from the award-winning Jonah Hex comic series. Rated PG-13.

SUPERMAN/SHAZAM As Clark Kent interviews street kid Billy Batson, he realizes that the feisty kid has a lot of heart. When Billy is chosen by an ancient wizard to turn into the hero Captain Marvel just by invoking the word, "Shazam!" Billy's powers come none-too-soon, because he also discovers that he's being pursued by a centuries' old, murderous villain, Black Adam, who is out to destroy Captain Marvel and is so powerful, not even Superman can stop him. Rated PG-13.

The DC Showcase animated shorts included on future DC Universe direct-to-DVD animated releases may be 10-15 minutes in length. However, extended versions of the animated shorts you read about earlier may be released as a collection on DVD for $12.99.

And the Next DC Animated films are.......

Superman vs. Brainiac  and   Batman vs. Ra's Al Ghul

DC's Animation division has been putting out serious quality work for several years now.  Although what would you expect from Gfest Lifetime Acheivement Award Winner Bruce Timm.  We think that his Wonder Woman movie was the best of the bunch, if not one of the best Wonder Woman stories ever told.

The next offering is Batman: Under the Red Hood staring Neil Patrick Harris.  But the Animation Division is hostorically secretive about future movies.

However, market research from Warner Brothers may give us a clue.  Recent surveys and testing suggest the next two movies are:

Superman: The Lost City of Krypton

Superman: Brainiac

Superman learns of an evil robotic artificial intelligence called Brainiac, who travels the universe, miniaturizing whole alien cities, including their citizens, which he keeps in bottles for study. When Brainiac threatens Earth, Superman has no choice but to hunt him down, only to discover that among the bottled cities in the robot's possession is Kandor from his homeworld of Krypton. Somehow the Man of Steel has to figure out how to defeat this superpowerful A.I., while protecting this last vestige of Kryptonian society. From Geoff Johns' popular comic series. Rated PG-13

Batman: Spawn of the Demon

When eco-terrorist Ra's Al Ghul sets out to destroy most of the world's population, it's up to Batman to stop him. Fortunately the Dark Knight finds an unexpected ally in Ra's daughter Talia, who can no longer tolerate her father's madness. Together Batman and Talia jet to some of the most exotic spots on the planet, battling Deadshot, Lady Shiva, and the League of Assassins, in a desperate race to stop Ra's before it's too late. Rated PG-13

Anyone else as excited as we are?
