Target Stores Announces Customers Can Trade in iPhones, iPods, Cell Phones and Videogames

Target today announced it will soon allow customers to trade in a number of electronic devices, including new or used iPhones, iPods, cell phones and videogames, to receive in-store credit that can be used towards other purchases.

The company noted this new program "encourages guests to be eco-friendly," implying the electronics will be recycled and not resold. We contacted Target to get clarification.

It will launch in Northern California on August 24 with additional stores joining the program in September, and will be available in approximately 850 stores by the end of the year.

Target joins retailers GameStop, Best Buy, and Walmart as a destination to sell back used videogames. GameStop said on its latest earnings call that while the company is taking this new competition seriously, it has yet to see an impact on sales.

Video Game Character Yearbook Profiles

Andrew Bridgman over at Dorkly posted these hilarious pictures of video game characters yearbook profiles. I love Link's quote,  "I'm gonna go into this temple I'll be right back!" (said seven years ago).  Bomberman most likely never to be allowed in an airport.  Hilarious.

Those Pac Man Ghosts Are Much Scarier Than I Thought

DAMN.

Poor Pac Man.  That's a lot more violent ending than the videogame leads you to believe.

I also wonder if they are ghosts or zombies, as they clearly went right for the brain.

Girl Plays Guitar Hero in a Thong

There seems to be a growing trend on the internet of hot chicks playing video games in little or no clothing.  Needless to say, that's a trend gfest supports.  The latest is this girl playing guitar hero in a very skimpy thong.

Great Cartoon: Evolution of the Game Controller

Scott Johnson over at extralife developed this awesome comic entitled, "Evolution of the Game Controller."  The artist said this about this wonderfully creative print, "Not so much of a joke as it’s just an illustrated look at the evolution of controllers over time…from Pong to Kinect, I tried to put all the landmarks there. Hope you enjoy it. . ."

You can purchase this print my heading over the extralife store.

Worst Video Game Tattoos of All Time - Pac Man Version

Gfest is prepared to make the following bold statement:  these are the worst videogame based tattoos of all time.  Doesn't the tattoo artist have some ethical responsibility to step in and stop these idiots from doing this to themselves?

Also, what is it about Pac Man that inspires such horrible tattoo choices, and how exactly do you become this big of a Pac Man fan?

Legend of Zelda Art - Link Holds a Garage Sale

Gfest found this fantastic picture of Link from the Legend of Zelda over at Dorkly and had to share it with you.  As a huge Zelda fan that has played every game, the picture hits home.  It's difficult to keep track of all the items (hook-shot, bow and arrow, boots, glove, bracelet, bombs, etc.).  We could not find the artist behind this creative picture, so please let us know so we can give you the proper credit.

First 2010 E3 Video of Playstation Move is Breathtaking

A few months ago at the Game Developer's Conference, Sony showcased the PlayStation Move, a motion controller that offers one-to-one control in video games. You hold the PlayStation Move, the PlayStation Eye sees it, and you control the game through your actions.

IGN editors Ryan Clements and Greg Miller (luckiest men on earth) received a nearly two-hour, private PlayStation Move demo at the 2010 E3 Conference.

You can watch a shirt video clip below to view how wonderful the motion control system works.  To read the full reaction from Ryan and Matt click here.

Some of the biggest PlayStation 3 games will be available to play in 3D this year. The first 3D games hit as early as tomorrow.

According to Kotaku, at an event in Los Angeles, Sony PlayStation boss Jack Tretton is just rattling off games coming in 3D this year for the PS3. These games will be rendered in stereoscopic 3D and require a 3D TV and glasses in order to experience their popping effects.

Available as early as tomorrow in 3D for your PS3 will be Super Stardust HD and WipEout HD, Pain, and the demo version of MotorStorm Pacific Rift.

Tretton is also showing Gran Turismo 5 and MLB The Show 10 in 3D as well. No release dates on those yet.

The company announced their first 3D motion-controlled game as well. The already-revealed but oft-renamed The Fight: Lights Out will be playable in 3D when it is launched.

Sony also said that starting tomorrow anyone who buys a Sony Bravia 3D TV will get four 3D PS3 games and demos.

New Batman: Brave and the Bold Video Game Trailer

Gfest loves anything Batman (as if you didn't know that).  We love Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, The Adventures of Batman and Robin, Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, The Batman, and Batman the Brave and the Bold.  We have watched every single episode of each series (ya, we know that's why we are your favorite geeks) and always wanted a decent video game to play modeled after these series.

Well know we may finally have one.  Warner Brothers says:
The Brave and the Bold the Videogame fully immerses fans into the vivid animated world of the successful TV series where kids can play as Batman or together with family and friends in two-player co-op mode. Players can choose from iconic characters ROBIN, GREEN LANTERN, BLUE BEETLE, along with drop-in heroes such as AQUAMAN to help solve puzzles and fight foes. The game also features the majority of the great voice talent responsible for characters in the animated TV series.
Gfest thinks Batman + Wii = amazing.  Enjoy the trailer for this game below.

T Shirt That Lets You Touch Boobies!

We are praying for the day when we get to personally see this shirt on a cute girl.  It's only available from some Russian T-Shirt site called MaryJane and they are going to charge you $42 for it.

That may seem a steep price for a shirt, but remember that if used properly, it has the side benefit of increasing the size of your joystick.

Sony Releasing PSP 2 at E3?

IGN is reporting that earlier this month rumors began circulating about the possibility of Sony showing off a brand new PSP at this year's E3 -- not just a new iteration of the existing series, but a brand new device – the fabled PSP 2. Reports today, however, suggest that the new hand-held will not be making its debut at the show, but maintain that it is real, and will arrive later this year.

A source reported yesterday that Sony's long-rumored successor to the PSP is unlikely to be shown at E3, and is expected to debut at Tokyo Game Show or GamesCom later this year. The site went on to detail the purported features of the new device; specifically that it will feature two cameras, a touch-screen display, and will feature a four-core Cell processor. While we have heard chatter about camera integration and touch-screen controls in the past, the four-core processors is a fairly new addition to the rumor mill. The inclusion of a powerful four-core processing system would be a large boost over current iterations, and to it put into perspective, is about half the power of the PS3, which runs on an eight-core variation.

Gfest will let yo know the minute we receive any details on the PSP 2 debut

Nintendo Unveils Wii Party

If you were wondering what's next to follow Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Wii Music, Nintendo provided the answer today: Wii Party.

This all new party game is being developed for Wii release some time this year, according to IGN. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced it during an investors briefing in Japan earlier today. An English transcript of that briefing was posted online.

"Nintendo has not launched a marquee party game since Mario Party 8, launched in summer 2007," said Iwata during the briefing. "However, since Wii is usually being played by several people at once and the global sales of Mario Party have reached 7.6 million units, a party title has great potential. [Wii Party] is one of the titles which, we hope, will play an important role for this fiscal year."

First Pictures of Luigi in Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Mario Galaxy 2 hits store shelves later this month.  Nintendo released some pictures of Luigi today, and they have created quite a BUZZ.

I'm not going to lie and say that's the coolest picture of Luigi I've ever seen, but Nintendo rarely dissapoints when it comes to its Mario franchise.

Head over to IGN to see more pictures.

You Thought 'Halo' Kicked A$$, Wait for Bungie's Next Generation Game

It’s hard to plan very far in advance in the videogame industry, but the house that Halo built knows what it’s doing for the next decade: Working on a secret new game franchise with Activision Blizzard, wired.com reports.

“The scope and the ambition of what we’re planning is much greater than the scope and the ambition of Halo,” Bungie design director Joseph Staten told Wired.com following Thursday’s announcement of a 10-year contract that gives Activision exclusive publishing rights to the new videogame series Bungie is creating.

“I think we’re all eager to go on and go bigger than we’ve ever gone before,” Staten said.  While most Bungie workers have been finishing Halo Reach the popular series’ final game, which enters public beta Monday — a small team led by studio co-founder Jason Jones has been at work on the secret new action game franchise for the past year.

“We’re extremely excited about getting everybody, once they’re done with Reach, working on this new thing…. The work we’re doing now is concrete, real work, getting ready for the full might of Bungie to jump in as soon as Reach is done,” Staten said.

Head over to wired.com for more of this fascinating story.

EA Sports - 2010 FIFA World Cup Soccer Is Beautiful

While I must admit loyal fans of Gfest, that this part of your dynamic duo is hardly a fan of soccer (the other part is a different story).  But, I do admit that the World Cup is an extremely exciting event that gets the old "Stars and Stripes" blood pumping.

If you're a soccer fan or just a fan of video games, than you have most likely played EA’s FIFA series.  For you junkies, EA released a little bit of crack cocaine to get you your World Cup fix.  Coming this week you can play, 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.  It provides an immersive and addicting experience where gamers can take any of the tournaments 199 teams all the way from qualification to the title match.

I think Nate Ahearn at IGN summed up the feel of this game perfectly, "I know, it sounds unlikely considering I live in California and all, but given the celebratory sequence I was just treated to in 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, I really can't imagine winning the real thing feels much better."
