First Look At "Superman/Shazam: The Return Of Black Adam" DC Animated Movie

"DC Showcase" animated shorts have been a very pleasant surprise for all the DC Animated fans.  The Spectre (my favorite), Jonah Hex and Green Arrow have been released thus far as a bonus to a DC Animated full length feature.

As we reported earlier all the "DC Showcase" animated shorts being collected and released next week on DVD and Blu-Ray. What's even nicer, however, is that the collection comes with the brand new animated short Superman/Shazam: The Return Of Black Adam.

Thanks to The Splash Page we have the ability to watch an exclusive clip from "Superman/Shazam" to get you psyched for its release next week.

Superman/Shazam: The Return Of Black Adam features Jerry O’Connell as the voice of Captain Marvel, George Newbern as Superman, Arnold Vosloo ("The Mummy") as Black Adam, and veteran actor James Garner as The Wizard.

Enjoy the preview!

Tom Hardy To Play Harvey Bullock In Batman 3: "The Dark Knight Rises"?

It seems like everyday a new Batman 3 nugget is released into cyberspace.  Yesterday, we received the wonderful news that the third film in Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise finally has a title, The Dark Knight Rises.”  We also learned from Nolan that the Riddler is NOT the villain in Batman 3. So much for the rumor that Tom Hardy will pay the Riddler.  If Hardy is not the Riddler, what role will he have in the "Dark Knight Rises?"
Well IMBD  updated their cast list for TDKR with Tom Hardy listed as Detective Harvey Bullock (rumored of course). Is this accurate or hoax?  Comic Book Movie gives us their take on the IMBD rumor, "I realize this must be taken for what it is. IMDB don't even post any news source for the info. But the thing is, once in a blue moon they actually get a few things right. IMDB had actor JJ Field listed as Montgomery Falsworth(Union Jack) in Captain America TFA before any other news site did, and that has since been confirmed. So I figured this was worth reporting on the off chance."

I think Hardy would play a good Bullock.  Put a some fat on his bones, stick a cigar in his mouth, a fedora on his head, a sandwich in his hand and he may will be a perfect Bullock.

What do you think?  Is this a good role for Hardy knowing that the Riddler will not be the villain in the new Nolan movie?  Let us know.

Rumors about the Superman Movie Reboot

It was big news last week when it was revealed that Zach Snyder will direct the Superman Reboot.  Well now rumors are running rampant with many other"possible details" about the new Superman movie.

Here are the "rumors" being reported thus far:
  • The current title is Superman: Man of Steel (clever)
  • The very brief synopsis from the script is, "Clark Kent is a journalist traveling the world trying to decide if he should, in fact, even become Superman." (sweet Jesus this is the best we could come up with?)
  • The movie is reported to be more of a Clark Kent movie, not a Superman Movie (WTF?).
  • Darren Aronofsky passed on the project because the script is a mess (posts above make it sound like it is still a mess)
  • Apparently, Warner Bros. picked Snyder for  the script because it was rushed, is still a bit of a mess, and that Warner Bros. needs someone who won't spend months or even years trying to get it just right (i.e. Aronofsky), (God forbid we get it right after the disaster we all suffered through by Singer)
  • The studio must have a new Superman movie in production by 2011 or they'll be subject to potential lawsuits by the heirs of the superhero's creators. (well it's not like WB has anybody on payroll that could help clean it up.  Geoff Johns?, John Byrne?, Mark Waid? Grant Morrison?, Dan Jurgens?)
  • David Goyer's script is said to involve series staple General Zod, famously played by Terence Stamp in the first two "Superman" pictures, and Callum Blue on recent episodes of "Smallville". (really Zod? He's been recycled more times than a plastic water bottle.)
  • Lastly, hopefully the woman pictured at the top of the page is in it (no confirmation yet)
Those are the rumors we have found thus far and we will continue to keep you posted if we hear any more rumblings about the reboot.

Let us know if you have any tidbits about the movie you would like to share or any ideas!

Warner Bros. Searching for Director for SUPERMAN Reboot Movie

Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas have started interviewing directors for the upcoming Superman reboot, reports Deadline.

The rumored list includes Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), Jonathan Liebesman (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Battle: Los Angeles and just-signed for Clash of the Titans 2), Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), Tony Scott (True Romance, Unstoppable), and Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300).

The article suggests that a decision will be made in the next few weeks so that production on the project can be fast-tracked to make a 2012 release.

Whom would you like to see take the helm as the director to the Superman Reboot?

DC Comics/Entertainment Moving to West Coast

Holy Sh*t Batman!  DC Comics is moving to the West Coast... Some of it, at any rate. The publisher is moving a significant portion of its staff to Burbank, California (home of Warner Bros. Entertainment) while keeping its core comics publishing unit in New York.

From an announcement released this morning, DC will "relocate its business functions related to and supporting multi-media and digital content production." That is later clarified to encompass all of DC Entertainment's work in film, television, videogames, digital media, consumer products as well as administrative functions. The move is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
"These organizational changes reinforce the strengths of DC's greatest legacies – most importantly its people and its creative talent – and offer greater opportunity for maximum growth, success and efficiency in the future," said Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment (DCE). "Our two offices will stretch and build their respective areas of focus, while prioritizing and aggressively striving to connect and cooperate more strongly than ever before between them and with their colleagues at Warner Bros."
I know this is not a BIG surprise it has been rumored to happen since the formation of the DCE entity last year.   Diane Nelson, DCE Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee and DCE Executive VP of Sales, Marketing and Business Development John Rood are all based out West, so some shift to California seem likely.

I like this move and hope it boosters (gold) DC's entertainment arm.  We will hopefully continue to see more DC character movies, animation, video games and other entertainment projects in future.

Lastly, the farther away any portion od DC can get from Dan Didio the better.

What do you think?

Marion Cotillard Offered Role as Talia or Selina in BATMAN 3

According to the some what unscrupulous site Perez Hilton, Marion Cotillard has been offered a role in Batman 3. Apparently his sources are unsure of whether the role was Catwoman or Talia Al Ghul, regardless she reportedly turned down the offer as of now as she’s unsure whether the planned shooting start date of the next Batman movie will clash with other projects she’s either interested in or already committed to, despite the fact that she’s reportedly keen to work with Nolan again.

Who knows if this true.  It's Perez Hilton for Christ's sake, but nonetheless, I think she would be a good Talia or Selina.  She's sexy and sultry with just the right amount of confidence to pull it off.  And, it passes the Nolan smell test since she was in INCEPTION, but we will have to wait and see if it becomes a reality.

The third and final installment in the Nolan Batman franchise starts filming next spring for July 2012 release date.

At the end of the Batman Arkham Asylum, Batman hops in the Bat Wing and flies back to Gotham to stop Two-Face from robbing a bank, hinting that the next game will move from Arkham to Gotham.

Now we have more hints concerning the follow up the to the wildly successful game as gfest's friends at Superannuation have found 15 different domain names that Warner Brothers has registered related to the sequel to 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum, potentially releasing the official title or at least an idea of the storyline.

Our favorite is Batman Ashes of Gotham.  We like the sound of that one.  Here are the full list of registered domain names:

Harry Potter Director Attached to Fables Movie

According to Collider, director David Yates (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) may be attached to helm an adaptation of Bill Willingham’s comic book series Fables.  You may remember that in December of 2008, it was reported that ABC was adapting the books for a new TV series.  For those unfamiliar with the comics, Fables centers on characters from fairy tales, myths, etc. living in New York after their homeland is overtaken by a figure known only as “The Adversary”.  Presuming this film adaptation is in the works, then I think we can assume the television version is dead.  Also, the project would be set up at Warner Bros. since they own publisher Vertigo Comics, which is a subsidiary of DC Comics. It's been awhile since any word about the tentative Fables TV series has circulated.  The last evidence that the property was still being considered for a live-action treatment was when the ABC network announced it's plans for an adaptation; but that was several years ago.

"[We've] been given fairly convincing evidence to definitively suggest that David Yates is, at least, in the mix and that a Fables movie is, at the very least, in the early stages of development, so it’s not a rumor that should be quickly dismissed...However, though the project is apparently a priority over at Warner Brothers, there’s not a writer on board yet and the potential ABC mini-series based on the graphic novel series may present either a conflict or a launching point, which assumes that ABC’s television series is going ahead. That’s not information I have available, although if DC Comics and Warner Brothers are developing a film, common sense would suggest that the series is all but dead. Best I can tell, there’s been little or no movement on the series since it was announced a year and a half ago."

Bill Willingham’s award winning Fables series follows the story of many popular fairy tale characters, such as the Big Bad Wolf, Snow White, Boy Blue, Cinderella and the Frog Prince, who are chased out of their realms (dubbed the Homelands) when an evil force called the Adversary declares war. The characters, both human and animal based, find sanctuary in our world and build a community in New York.

David Yates, who has helmed four of the Harry Potter films, has recently been linked to take over directing Peter Jackson's two-part prequel The Hobbit, since Guillermo Del Toro officially stepped down. No work yet from Warner Bros whether there is validity to this new rumor; but Fables fans should at least be happy to hear the series may not be ignored for much longer.

New Green Lantern Promo Art - Hal Jordan In Wonder Woman Out

As all good comic readers know, the original Trinity was composed of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.  In fact, numerous books and series have been dedicated to the 'Trinity' composed of the 'Big' three.

Well apparently, Wonder Woman isn't pulling her weight (or revenue) because as you can see by the poster below, which places Green Lantern at the center of the DC superhero universe, Warner Brothers is obviously hoping that the picture will help move a lot of swag.

Green Lantern is due to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.

I don't like it but tell Gfest what you think?

NEW HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS TRAILER (Part 1)

Last night during the MTV Awards, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Trailer (part I)" debuted.  Gfest is very excited to watch part one of the seventh book movie adaption which opens on November 19, 2010.  The final Harry Potter movie, Part two of "Deathly Hallows", will open on July 15, 2011.

We will have to wait to determine how the movie is split into two parts.  Hopefully, David Yates and the rest of the folks involved in the movie will leave us with a pretty good cliffhanger between part one and two.  It's been a while since the final book was released and nearly nine months between the two movies might make a two-part film difficult.

Gfest doesn't care we will be viewing both films and excited to do so (and not just because Emma Watson is in them, but that's part of it).  Enjoy the new trailer below.

Green Lantern Movie Plot & Surprise Villain Revealed

Warner Brothers announced some interesting news concerning the Green Lantern movie scheduled for release next summer. Gfest is proud to share with you some of the official details.
Bringing the enduringly popular superhero to the big screen for the first time, “Green Lantern” stars Ryan Reynolds (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) in the title role, under the direction of Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”).
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.
Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Warner Brothers Green Lighting Barry Allen 'Flash' Movie

According to Gfest's friends at CBR, the corporate change-up that turned DC Comics into DC Entertainment has so far left smaller impacts on the publishing and promotion side of the long-standing comics company, most recently in the form of DC alternate world variants appearing on the Fox show "Fringe."

However, hidden in the latest Warner Brothers studio report at The Hollywood Reporter is a hint at what role DC will play in the studio's future plans in the way every fan has been waiting for: more DC movies. And apparently first up on the slate will be the fastest man alive himself.

According to Warner chairman and CEO Barry Meyer during an investor meeting, the DC Comics stable of superheroes are primed to become the studios biggest ten-tpoll farm for blockbuster movies once the WB's "Harry Potter" franchise wraps in July of 2011. First out the gate of unannounced films appears to be "The Flash" based on the Silver Age DC speedster as Meyer reportedly said they were "nearing" a green-light for the movie. Last summer, "Flash" writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns was announced as co-producer and screenwriter for a Flash film, although Meyer gave no indication if it was this script that was so near the green-lighting phase.

Next up for Warners and DC in theaters is an adaptation of Western hero "Jonah Hex" followed by "Green Lantern" on June 17, 2011 followed by the next Christopher Nolan "Batman" movie in July of 2012 and the Nolan-produced "Superman" relaunch during the 2012 holiday season. For more info on the full WB film slate including the sequel to "Sherlock Holmes" go to The Hollywood Reporter.

New 'Splice' Move Posters Released

Gfest was blown away when we saw the trailer for "Splice" prior to the showing of "Iron Man 2".  While you never got a good glimpse of the byproduct of the 'splice' but nonetheless it looked pretty damn cool.

Finally Warner Bros recently released this very odd international posters for the upcoming film “Splice” from producer (The Hobbit, Hellboy) by director Vincenzo Natali (High Rise, Cypher) and starring Adrien Brody (Fantastic Mr. Fox) and Sarah Polley (Mr. Nobody).

After viewing these weird and disturbing posters and you have no ideas about this movie here is a brief synopsis:
Clive and Elsa are young, brilliant and ambitious. The new animal species they engineered have made them rebel superstars of the scientific world. In secret, they introduce human DNA into the experiment. The result is something that is greater than the sum of its parts: a female animal-human hybrid that may be a step up on the evolutionary ladder. They think they may have created the perfect organism, until she makes a final shocking metamorphosis that could destroy them … and the rest of humanity.

Green Lantern Movie Theme Song Debut

Dokken, Faster Pussycat, Cinderella, White Lion, Motley Crue - the days of a genuine, bona-fide power ballad sadly, seems to be a thing of the distance past.

But where there was once darkness, now there is a flicker of light.   You can hear the weeping guitar.  You can smell the pyrotechnics.  You can see the spandex and scarves.

All thanks to Musician Gary Mitchell.  He felt so strongly that Green Lantern needed a kick ass rock anthem to get audiences jazzed that he wrote and recorded "In Brightest Day."

Warner Brothers take notice Hal Jordan's anthem has arrived!  Watch, listen and weep below.
