Shocking News Alert: Grant Morrison to Frustrate Comic Fans

I know what you will say, "if you don't like it, don't read it."   That is easier said than done since Morrison authors the books from my favorite superhero, Batman.  Now we have so many damn Batman books with more than one Batman and apparently it is all connected because we are awaiting the return of Bruce Wayne and its significance to the DCU and the Batman Universe.  Except, Grant's too busy and we have to wait for these books.

Will everything be delayed?  Does the DCU storyline as a whole revolve around Bruce Wayne?  Is Wayne truly a White Lantern?  Does Bruce a play major role in Brightest Day?  We were told TIME MASTERS: VANISHING POINT plays an important role in the next DCU storyline?  Who  knows!

Batman: The Return of Bruce #5 was confirmed as being postponed for two months. Originally scheduled for Aug. 5, the DC Comics website now has it coming out on Oct. 6. Blogger David Uzumeri brought this to my attention with a Twitter poster on Friday, and the realization of the delay dovetailed in with two other pieces of stray information from weeks ago.

The first was the news of a sudden artistic change-up to Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #4 from Cameron Stewart to Georges Jeanty; originally solicited for July 21, the book only came out one week late, but the artwork looks a tad rushed. Stewart wrote on his blog that “conditions were such that I felt that my work would be drastically compromised and sub par should I stay on board, and so I felt that it was best that I walked away.” It has proven to be amicable, with pages already filtering out online of a future collaboration with Stewart, Morrison and DC on the 16th issue of Batman & Robin.

The second is from the blog of Sean Murphy, artist of the Morrison-penned Joe the Barbarian. According to his post, he’s waiting on the script for the final two issues of the series. Joe the Barbarian #7 was originally scheduled for release on July 21, while DC’s website now has a release of Sept. 15.

Checking with the solicitations for the past three months, Morrison is working on four series: Batman, Batman & Robin, Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne and Joe The Barbarian. He’s also been announced to work on two miniseries, Batman: The Return and Multiversity, a new series titled Batman Inc., as well as a prose book titled Supergods: Our World in the Age of the Superhero.

Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #4 PREVIEW- COWBOY BATMAN

I like the idea of Batman being in a cowboy setting.  It's like Bruce Wayne is the Roland Deschain of his own Dark Tower series - Batman:  The Last Gunslinger.  This is the first issue of Grant Morrison's Bruce Wayne arc that I have been excited about.

Preview: BATMAN #701 'R.I.P.The Missing Chapter'

Thank God and issue of BATMAN with the real Batman.  Maybe we will actually get an issue of ACTION COMICS that contains Superman himself.

I am excited to read these next few issues of the Grant Morrison's BATMAN to find-out what happened to Bruce Wayne prior to getting hit with Darkseid's Omega Sanction in FINAL CRISIS #6.  I know the percentage if being extremely disappointed is very high, but I have faith.

The good news is Major Spoilers got a sneak peak of BATMAN #701.  Enjoy the preview.

New Variant Cover for Return of Bruce Wayne #4

DC Comics has released the variant cover for Grant Morrison's Return of Bruce Wayne #4 by Cameron Stewart.  In case you couldn't tell from the cover, this is the cowboy issue.  Given the ending to issue #3, we should also expect to see an appearance from Jonah Hex in here.

Also released was a new Chris Sprouse variant cover for Time Masters: Vanishing Point #1, which of course ties in to the Return of Bruce Wayne Story.

First Look at Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne #3 Preview

Batman:  Return of Bruce Wayne #3 hits the shelves tomorrow and Yanick Paquette steps into the artist’s chair and joins forces with writer Grant Morrison to tell a pirate’s tale – featuring our hero, a time-lost Bruce Wayne, struggling to find his way back home as some of his own friends struggle to prevent it from happening.

Gfest has been a little disappointed thus far with this series.  Although, in typical Grant Morrison fashion he takes the reader on a long and confusing journey prior to providing the "pay-off."  Let's hope the Scottish James Robinson knows has a plan to tie this story together that will fit into the DC Universe.  By fit into the DC Universe, Gfest means make Bruce Wayne Batman again!

Once in a while Gfest get very fortunate and stumbles upon an awesome comic-art blog.  Well we certainly got very lucky when we found FoxxFireArt's Blog and deviantArt pages thanks to our friends at comicvine.

FoxxFireArt has been developing a very funny comic strip based on the The Return of Bruce Wayne.  FoxxFireArt explains on his blog.

When I heard Bruce would be traveling through time. I tried to think of the most iconic forms of time travel that could make a funny joke. I thought of "Back to the Future", "Quantum Leap", and " Terminator". While Quantum Leap has the most comedic potential. The manner of time travel was different. Knowing this. The theme of this 4koma should be pretty obvious.

I was actually posting images on my Twitter account (@ FoxxFireArt) showing my progression in the creation of this 4koma. From the time that my pencil hit the page. Every few hours I would post a sample to my Twitter account. I'm not sure how that went over. I'm not sure I will try that again. I just don't know if anyone even cared. DC Announces Release of Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne Action Figures

Gfest has been less than impressed with the first two issues of the Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne miniseries written by the ever unreliable and sporadic Grant Morrison.  Issue #2, featuring Pilgrim Batman made absolutely no sense and reminded me of my love/hate relationship with Morrison.

Although, DC did something extra special today.  They made Gfest forget about the Issue #2 of this miniseries because they provided us a first look at DC Direct's Return of Bruce Wayne action figures

The first wave will hit in April of 2012, and features four different versions of our time lost hero, based on the designs of cover artist Andy Kubert.

Brand New Cover Art for Batman Beyond #2

Gfest loves Batman Beyond.  Cranky old Bruce Wayne (Not Dick (head) Grayson), Terry McGinnis, Ace the dog, bitchy Barbara Gordon, a-hole Derrick Powers, etc.  Great Cartoon and short lived comic series.  Gfest praises the comic gods (not Dan Didio) for bringing this story back to us. 

Here is the beautiful cover to Issue #2 done by the ever talented Dustin Nguyen.  And because Gfest loves you here is the synopsis to the issue as well.

Grant Morrison Does Batman Literally

Bleeding Cool brings Gfest this disturbing image of Grant Morrison in very strange underwear with a freakin huge scar. It's very, very disturbing.   

For those of you who think crossing the fourth wall in comics is fun for writers, I think the belly scar is clear proof that it isn't.  At least I assume that's how he got that god awful thing.

Your friends at Gfest assumes Morrison is attempting to replicate Bruce Wayne in the Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #1, which coincidentally hits shelves tomorrow (May 12).

Let's hope the writing is better than the live model shot.

Return of Bruce Wayne Takes Detour at Jersey Shore?

The folks at topspeed.com have found the Dark Knight, as you can see in this picture of him driving on the New Jersey Turnpike.  Wow, that trip through time that Darkseid sent Batman on at the end of FINAL CRISIS, just keeps getting stranger. 

Caveman Batman, Pirate Batman, Pilgrim Batman, and now Jersey Shore Batman?  In this picture, Bruce Wayne is seen driving in a replica of the 1960’s Batmobile that Adam West made famous.  He even went as far as to dress up a manequin as his beloved Robin to ride shotgun.  Although you can't really blame him for missing Robin.

Poor Bruce Wayne.  Darkseid's Omega Sanction is a thousand times more cruel than gfest could have ever imagined.  I mean, Batman had to fight his way through the Jersey Shore.  Even DESAAD might think that's over the top.

First Five Pages of Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne - Early Preview

As Gfest said earlier in the week, we are huge fans of Bruce Wayne as Batman NOT Dick Grayson.  As all good disciples of Jack "The King" Kirby know Bruce Wayne has been lost in time as a result of Darkseid's Omega Sanction. He is believed dead by his closest allies with the exception of the greatest sidekick of all time, the true Robin, Tim Drake.

Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #1 launches a special, six-issue event that chronicles the return of the original Dark Knight.  Each issue spans a different era of time and featuring the dynamic artwork of a different, A-list comic book artist.

As excited as Gfest is for this event, we have one major concern - GRANT MORRISON.  High-Father himself cannot predict how this madman will draft this series.  Gfest is afraid that by issue #6 of this series, we will feel like we did after reading Final Crisis #7 - how do I wake up from this nightmare!!

Until that time, Gfest is going to remain positive that Dan Didio and Grant Morrison will restore Bruce as Batman and restore all that is right to this world.
