Mattel Releases More "Mego" Type Retro DC Action Figures Including Darkseid & Black Adam

I had several Mego action figures (won't call them dolls) growing up.  If only I had not destroyed them in my  childhood.  Throwing, tying, hanging, jumping, shooting, etc. did not allow my Mego figures to stand the test of time.

Thankfully, Mego-style dolls (action figures) have experienced a resurgence thanks to Mattel's World's Greatest DC Heroes line, which has released many DC Comics heroes and villains that never saw the light of day under Mego. In addition to Captain Marvel (aka Shazam) the line will see the first appearance of Black Adam, Martian Manhunter and my personal all-time favorite character, Darkseid.

Dolls, I mean action figures never looked so AWESOME!  What DC character would you like to see become a retro figure? I'd like Ra's Al Guhl.

Batman Mini Funko Toys are Funkolicious

How sweet are these mini figures?  The new Mini Funko's are refined Blammoids with a touch of cool.  The upcoming line features Batman, Batgirl, Robin, the Joker and the Penguin in all Funko Force's trademark chibi glory, with each piece standing roughly 3.75" tall. You can preorder for $8.00 a piece these new Funko's at and should have them in your hands by September to October.

Like these?  As an avid action figure collector, I don't normally purchase the "non traditional" action figures but I do like their style. Tell us what you think.

NEW Classic Green Lantern Action Figures

As an action figure collector, SDCC is as good as it gets.  Those three days are like Christmas morning for me.  Not only can you purchase the exclusives but you can obtain a first peak at the new series yet to be released.  Case in point, we saw these beauties on display in San Diego.

Expected to arrive in stores in October, the line's first wave is set to include Kyle Rayner, Black Hand, Manhunter, Sinestro Corps members Low and Maash (who come with interchangeable heads) and Black Lantern Abin Sur. Mongul will round out the line, although it's uncertain whether this version will be a reissue or an original sculpt. As with many DCUC lines, this GL wave will include build-a-character pieces, appropriately forming Arkillo this time around.

FIRST LOOK: DC Direct BRIGHTEST DAY Action Figures

In March 2011, DC DIRECT will kick off another series of high-quality and story-specific product, this time based around the hit biweekly series, BRIGHTEST DAY. Here ist a first look at the first two waves, which include Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Deadman, Aquaman, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Firestorm and Mera.

As an obsessed action figure collector, I am surprisingly lukewarm about the BRIGHTEST DAY line.   The story thus far has been in my opinion, less than engaging so I have hard time purchasing a bunch of characters I could in all honesty give a shit about.  I mean come on who is going to shell out money to purchase Mera?

First Look at Mattel Vintage/Retro DC Super Heroes Wave 2

You remember the Green Arrow figure in the Retro-Action DC line?  Probably not because it sold-out so god damn quick nobody got one.   Why wouldn't it?  Gfest loves the look of the old MEGO figures from the 1970s.

Thankfully, Mattel realized the demand for these beautiful retro figures and will soon release a new wave. The company posted photos of the Wave 2 collection that features Batman, Two-Face, Aquaman, and Black Manta. (via matty collector)

First Look at Green Lantern Movie Poster

In a press release sent out by Warner Brother on Friday afternoon, the company announced a deal with Mattel that gives the toy company access to the entire vault of DC Comics characters, including Green Lantern, to develop toys from the property.

In order to show the importance of this announcement Warner Bros. released a movie poster for the Green Lantern movie scheduled for release next summer.  To read the Warner Bros. press release please click read more.

DC Announces Release of Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne Action Figures

Gfest has been less than impressed with the first two issues of the Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne miniseries written by the ever unreliable and sporadic Grant Morrison.  Issue #2, featuring Pilgrim Batman made absolutely no sense and reminded me of my love/hate relationship with Morrison.

Although, DC did something extra special today.  They made Gfest forget about the Issue #2 of this miniseries because they provided us a first look at DC Direct's Return of Bruce Wayne action figures

The first wave will hit in April of 2012, and features four different versions of our time lost hero, based on the designs of cover artist Andy Kubert.

The figures include:
Prehistoric Batman

Witch-hunter Batman

Wild West Batman

High Seas Batman

Custom Made Blue Lantern Warth the Elephant Action Figure

Warth is from Sector 2 and was the second person to be initiated into the Blue Lantern Corps. He's also an elephant, which is awesome.

Each Blue Lantern is chosen by the Blue Lantern of the previous sector and brought to the founders of the Blue Lantern Corps, Ganthet and Sayd, to be evaluated.

Ganthet and Sayd, former Guardians of the Universe, teach the new recruit the ways of the corps and judge whether that person is worthy of becoming a member of their Corps.

Warth was brought to Odym, home planet of the Blue Lantern Corps, by its first member, Saint Bro'Dee Walker of Sector 0001.

Custom Made Batman Action Figure from Arkham Asylum

Gfest has a great deal of respect for those of you able to make custom action figures.  You fill a much needed void in our fanboy hearts by giving us the hottest action figures before the big companies can.

This version of Batman for the ARKHAM ASYLUM videogame is a piece of art.  The detail is simply amazing.  It's available on eBay right now, but be warned, you won't get it cheap.

Check out the eBay auction by clicking HERE.

Starro will be San Diego Comic Con Exclusive

STARRO!

Mattel's biggest offering for San Diego Comic Con items this year is Starro. This pack is a recreation of the classic Brave and the Bold cover and features light and sounds as well as the voice of Batman actor Kevin Conroy. Each figure in the set has a recorded description just like a museum display with Kevin describing the origin of each character. It is an incredible package designed by Frank Varela.

Brave and the Bold #28

And as a bonus, only at SDCC will you get a polly bag set of four 6″ scale Starro Spores that work with most DCUC action figures! The Starro Spores are only available at the show as a gift with purchase!

Will Plastic Man be this Year's Comic Con Exclusive?

Is DCU Classics 2010 Comic Con Exclusive Plastic Man?

Blue Canoe Stew, the poster at RTM who’s been pretty damn accurate with his leaked info about Mattel's DC Universe Classics line so far, is now saying that the 2010 San Diego Comic Con DCUC exclusive will be Plastic Man:

Plasticman with various attachments and shapes that wouldn’t normally fit on a single figure card. He’ll be the last figure needed to complete Mattel’s re-making of the SUPER POWERS collection. (The others will come in waves announced prior to Comic Con).

Is he right? We sure hope so.  Although we have always loved this Plastic Man figure.
