Why Not Zoidberg?

Artist Chris Carlson created this awesome Dr. Zoidgerb sidewalk art.

Amazing result, but the accompanying "making of" video is very interesting.  Was surprised how much measuring and math seems to go into making of these pieces of sidewalk art

Can a Sexy Star Wars Burlesque Show Actually Succeed?

Did you even realize that burlesque shows still actually existed in this world?  Gfest sure didn't.

But a little research tells us that there has in fact been a resurgence of interest in burlesque shows in the last decade or so.  The original burlesque shows, which began here in America in the 1860's shows played in cabarets and clubs, and featured bawdy comedy and striptease, but not nudity.

They were a part of American culture for another eighty years, but the format began to fade in popularity in the 1940's, at the very earliest stages of the sexual revolution in this country.  Burlesque shows were eventually replaced by strip clubs, much to the appreciation of men everywhere.

What you probably didn't know is that they have apparently made a bit of a comeback.  The shows began to return in New York City in the early 1990s and developed a bit of a cult following.  The shows then spread to Los Angeles and New Orleans.

We assume they quickly realized that nobody in their right mind would actually pay money to see this.  For most men, the only reason they go to a theatery thing is because their date has promised them the chance to see naked boobs later that evening.  Burlesque is theater with no boobs, which just isn't going to cut it in today's world.  We have the internet now.  Burlesque alone can't compete with that.

So what's a burlesque dancer to do?  Well, you could try to court the ever growing geek culture by adding some extra sexual energy into some of our favorite science fiction characters.  And that's just what the ladies below tried to do by adopting the Star Wars culture.

But did they succeed?  You be the judge:

Kashyyyk's Next Top Model?

I believe this is the newest model, the titTIE fighter.

THIS is the droid I was looking for!

They're clones right?  So all of them look like this?
This almost makes up for Jar Jar Binks.

Boba seems to have developed a Fettish.

The Sexiest and Worst Batman Tattoos of All Time - NSFW

A Batman tattoo is the coolest thing a person can have.  Hands down.

Unless you call it a Battoo.  Or you make your tattoo into a tramp stamp.  Then you are just a dork.

But deciding which exact Batman themed tattoo to get can be an agonizing process that can take years before one can make a final decision.

Some people make rash decisions, and live to regret them. Some absolutely nail it.

Your friends at gfest have been engaged in this process for a long time, and have seen a tremendous amount of tattoos with Batman, the Batman logo, or the various members of the Bat family and rouges gallery featured.

We now present you with two worthy of your special attention - our winners of the World's Sexiest Batman Tattoo and the World's Worst Batman Tattoo

Seriously.  Did you actually pay for this?

The flat stomach would make you seem like a real catch -- that is until you reveal that you let a five year old tattoo the batman symbol on your stomach, and that you still use MySpace.

Now THIS is how you wear the symbol!  Especially like that the sexy little bat is flying right above her own personal Batcave.  She's also got a very Catwoman feel to her, which only makes things better.  Well done.

Have you seen a worse batman tattoo?  Have you seen a sexier one?  Let us know.

Jim Lee draws Batman on the iPad

How can you not love this man?  Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, Joker, etc. all on the iPad  for our viewing pleasure.  Well now Jim has provided us with a wonderful drawing of Batman, the iPad edition.

Here is what Jim Lee tweeted,
"This is a very sped up clip of me messing around on my iPad. Original video was 20 mins in length; it usually takes me about 60-80 mins to get one of these pieces done using @sketchbookpro. I prefer using my finger to a stylus of any sort--makes it more fun. I honestly have to say this piece was not going in the direction I wanted so I stopped and got back to real work : ) but you get a general sense of how I layer on colors and work positive and negative shapes back and forth to get edges...like in painting."

THE NEW AMAZING SPIDER-MAN LOOKS BAD A$$

Columbia Pictures has officially announced that the new Spider-Man movie will be called The Amazing Spider-Man. Sony also released a new high-resolution image of Andrew Garfield in the new suit, with mechanical web-shooters clearly in sight.  I have to admit the suit looks pretty kick ass!

Columbia Pictures also confirmed the title and the release date of the project, which will hit cinemas on July 3, 2012.

Other stars in the movie include ''Easy A'' actress Emma Stone and Welsh star Rhys Ifans, reports Contactmusic.

Sally Field and Martin Sheen are also taking part in the movie, written by James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves.

Didio Decided to Fire the Outsiders Instead of Himself

In January of 2010, DC Comics co-publisher Dan Didio took over as writer of The Outsiders series, a team of superheroes who do not fit the norms of the mainstream superhero community, namely the Justice League of America. You can no longer argue with the hard facts that Didio's run was a complete and total failure, even if he was too proud to admit it.

In March 2009, before Didio took over, The Outsiders had monthly sales of roughly 28,000 copies, which was a typical sales figure for the title.

In the wake of Batman's apparent death in Final Crisis, a new team of Outsiders was created, and the title was "relaunched" to great success. Sales for the November release jumped to roughly 51,000.

Fast forward to June 2010, where the book first had to start relying solely on Dan Didio's storytelling skills, and you saw sales of a mere 18,000 copies.

As of December 2010, sales had plummeted all the way down to 13,000 copies, and now DC Comics has just announced that The Outsiders will officially cancel the title after Issue #40 in May.

Wow.

So Didio not only lost every single one of the new readers who jumped on board for the post Final Crisis reboot, he's also lost more than half of the traditional fan base as well, who you used to able to count on to pick up the title month in and month out.

When Didio was first doing his press tour regarding his taking over of The Outsiders title he said "If I felt that the book was not achieving, I would not be on that book. As simple as that. I'd cancel myself."

Well, it seems that once again, Dan Didio has lied to the loyal fans of the DC Universe. The book did not achieve.  He didn't cancel himself as writer. He didn't bring in a qualified team.  Instead he canceled the entire book.  We feel sorry for the 13,000 of you who are die hard fans of The Outsiders and hung in there with this title while Dan Didio had fun pretending he was a writer.  Hopefully, he has now realized that he is not one.

"War of the Green Lanterns" Begins in March

We've seen Geoff Johns' Green Lantern Universe transition from Rebirth to The Sinestro Corps Wars to Blackest Night and now to --- The War of the Green Lanterns?

A little drama within the Green Lantern Corps is only to be expected given what they have been through since Geoff Johns took over the Green Lantern Universe.  But will the fall of the Guardians be the event that triggers this war?  That's our best guess at this point.

There have been all sorts of clues weaved recently through the various Green Lantern books to suggest that the Guardians may be on their way out as leaders of the Green Lantern Corps.  Just this week we saw Sodam Yat form an army to supposedly take out the Guardians.

Will a leadership vacuum be the catalyst that forces the Green Lanterns to turn on each other?  We'll find out in March of 2011 in WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS #1 and throughout the Green Lantern titles in March, April and May.

In typical Johns' fashion, we don't know much about the title, but he has dropped a few hints in various interviews and panel appearances over the last month:

  • He has said that every Green Lantern will be tested — and tested against one another.

  • Johns has said that the main characters of this story will be Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and John Stewart.  By the way it's nice to finally see John back in action.  He's been very much a second tier character for much of John's run.

  • Johns said that after Brightest Day ends, there will be a "huge fight" between Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner.  This only makes sense given Guy's mission he's currently on with Ganthet and Atrocitus.  While we don't know the true nature of that mission yet, many get the feeling that the Green Lanterns and the Guardians won't the like the end result of it.

  • GREEN LANTERN #63 and GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS #7 will serve as preludes to the crossover.

We can't wait for the War to begin given Johns' track record with Green Lantern.  But more importantly, we can't wait for the broken Green Lantern rings that we hope DC Comics will give away with each copy.  Make it happen DC!

Nolan Casting a Female Villain and Love Interest for 'The Dark Knight Rises'

Deadline, who first  broke the news that Tom Hardy has joined the cast of The Dark Knight Rises, now is reporting another interesting casting rumor.
"Chris Nolan is lining up actresses he'll meet for two female lead roles in The Dark Knight Rises, the third installment of the Batfranchise which Warner Bros has dated release on July 20, 2012. I'm told one of the roles is a love interest for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne, and the other is a villain. The actresses are: Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley."
Does the mean the Catwoman and Talia Al Ghul rumours could possibly be true since Nolan is indeed looking for a female villain?  On the other hand, there are of plenty of love interests for Bruce Wayne that they could pick from the comic books.

My gripe with this rumor is centered around Blake Lively.  There is no way in hell Warner Brothers is going to allow Blake Lively (aka Carol Ferris) the star of the fist of three Green Lantern movies to play another character in Christopher Nolan's, The Dark Knight Rises. Thus, I have a hard time believing the validity of this claim.  We'll just have to wait and see.

The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

Wonder Woman Cat Fight Alert - Lynda Carter vs. Megan Fox

Turns out Brian Kilmeade of Fox and Friends thinks Megan Fox would be perfect for the role of Wonder Woman in that new TV show announced a while back . But when he suggested that casting to original TV Amazon Lynda Carter, we learned she's not quite as keen on the idea.

Carter, who was promoting her new album, explained her problem with Fox by saying the Transformers star "actually kind of trashed Wonder Woman" recently:

"She said she thought it was dumb, because like 'what's the big whoop making people tell the truth.' ... I like her, I just thought she shouldn't trash Wonder Woman."

Check out the complete clip below.

Christopher Walken Invades The Walking Dead

The artist known as Doctor Popular has given us our biggest smile of the week with his very funny series of art entitled "The Walken Dead."  He re imagines the world of Robert Kirkman and AMC's The Walking Dead series, except with super actor Christopher Walken playing a zombie.

It's witty, funny and a more than a little bit scary.  Christopher Walken is already a little creepy, but a zombie Christopher Walken carrying a cowbell around with him, well that's just terrifying.

Vertigo Releases Details of Willingham's FABLES #100

Fables is one of my favorite comics.  I have read every issue of Fables as well as it's spin-offs, one shots, etc.  As you can imagine, I am very excited for the release of this very special issue for many reasons.  Frau Totenkinder  vs. Mister Dark.  Rose Red vs. Gepetto.  Ozma vs. Totenkinder.

Today, Vertigo has released some details on the big 100th anniversary issue of their long-running Fables series
In this fantastic 100-page issue, it's time to put an end to Mister Dark once and for all, and time for the Fables to return home to Fabletown. For that to happen, one of the Fables agrees to take on the Dark Man in single combat! It's big, it's epic, and if you live in New York City, you may want to take a quick vacation when this issue comes out, because things are going to get wrecked!

In addition to the larger-than-life main story, we have a FABLES prose story written by Mark Buckingham and illustrated by Bill Willingham! We have an All-Star Burning Questions section that will knock your socks off (seriously, innocent people are going to lose some socks here). We have a puppet theatre created by the unstoppably creative Mark Buckingham, a FABLES board game, sequential stories painted by Chrissie Zullo and Joao Ruas, and even more surprises in this square-bound behemoth celebrating this award-winning Vertigo series!
Also in this issue are:
• A set of do-it-yourself Fables puppet theater illustrated by Mark Buckingham
• A three-page story written by Willingham with art by Cinderella artist Chrissie Zullo
• A three-page story written by Willingham with art by Joao Ruas
• A two-page Fables board game, illustrated by Buckingham, with game rules by Willingham
• Four celebrity “Burning Questions” stories, all written by Willingham, featuring questions from some of your favorite actors who are also FABLES fans! These “Burning Questions” are illustrated by top-flight artists including Adam Hughes, J.H. Williams III and Dave Johnson.

Fables #100 is scheduled to arrive in stores on December 8!

'True Blood‘s' Manganiello Confirms He's Spoken to (or Begged) WB About Playing Superman

With the news that Zack Snyder won the race to direct the newest Superman movie — produced by Christopher Nolan, written by David S. Goyer, and aiming for a holiday 2012 release — now comes the next, biggest round of wild media speculation: Who should don the Man of Steel’s red and blue tights?

Tom Welling (my first choice), John Hamm, Dwayne Johnson (absurd), Brandon Routh, John Cena are just a few that have been rumored to play the most powerful man on the planet.

No it appears we can add another name to the list, True Blood's Joe Manganiello. (Full disclosure, I don't watch True Blood so it is difficult for me to speak about Manganiello's acting credentials.  My buddies tell me I should watch True Blood because it has hot women, nudity and vampires which is a pretty damn good trifecta.)

According to MovieHole Manganiello has been telling anyone with a set of ears since late spring how badly he wants to play Superman for Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan. Now, according to True-Blood.net, Manganiello once again revealed his desire to hang on a wire harness for hours on end as the Man of Steel at a convention this past weekend.  He, however, added a bombshell – he's actually met with the filmmakers this time.

Not too long after word spread of his candidacy, he clarified the matter on Twitter with these remarks:
"Just to be clear... as of today, I am not 'negotiating' to play SuperMan"
"...but keep your fingers crossed and thanks for the wishful thinking!"
Another day another rumor about the Superman reboot.  What do you think about Joe Manganiello being the next Man of Steel?

Thanks to MovieHole & TMT

Batman: Arkham City Game Play Details Leaked

Other the past couple of months we received many beautiful screen shots from the highly anticipated sequel to Batman:  Arkham Asylum, but we have received little information on the actually game-play on Batman: Arkham City.  That is until now.

Thankfully, some incredibly hard working folks over at Arkhamcity.co.uk have released some facts on Batman: Arkham City that provides fans with some game-play details that the Dark Knight will take advantage of in the eagerly anticipated sequel.  Here you go!

  • Batman will have special moves that can hit up to three enemies at once
  • He'll also have new air attacks - one of them involves Bats hanging by a cord and jumping over the enemies and disarming them.
  • You can return to the starting point of the jump or carry on with the fight. There is also a diving swivel attack which hits two enemies at once.
  • Batman now has special combat moves (apparently called "Terminators"). One of them is called "Fallen" and is a combination of quick punches with a vertical kick that launches the enemy into the air giving The Dark Knight a second aerial shot.
  • There are also other attacks where Batman combines combos and equipment to take out foes.
  • Batman will be able to climb all objects including buildings and wires (he'll be able to balance on them, something similar to what was seen in the Assassin's Creed II).
  • You will also be able to slide underneath objects, cling to poles and rods, and perform gymnastic maneuvers. You can slide down ramps to grab an enemy as well.
  • Batman now has a feature where he can dodge projectiles shot from firearms. It can also be used for normal attacks.
  • Batman will be able to grab enemies mid-flight.
  • When Batman is soaring, if you go toward a window he performs a motion diving with his feet to smash the window and execute a surprise attack.
  • Batman can now run and use gadgets at the same time. You can also run, jump and hit at the same time. Batarangs can be thrown even when Batman jumps into the air.
  • A new gadget upgrades Batman's "leap" (Translation is confusing but it seems to suggest some sort of cape upgrade that expands into wings, can also "attack enemies")
Batman: Arkham City is currently expected to be released sometime next Autumn.

Superheroes as Pablo Picasso Envisioned Them

I always liked Picasso's art.  Each and every-time I view it, I can't help but think to myself, even I could paint a picture that looks like that.  Everything out of place, with multiple features and bright colors.

Now thanks to Mike and Matt over at Etsy, I now have a new found respect for Picasso and the cubist movement.  These superheroes postcards re-imagined as Picasso paintings are absolutely fabulous.

Mike and Matt are selling their bizarre superhero reinterpretations as prints and postcards over at Etsy, so once you check out our favorites below, head there and buy something to encourage them to keep pumping out these modern classics.

Tim Burton & Johnny Depp Turn to Vampires Soap Opera with DARK SHADOWS Remake

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Johnny Depp’s next film (after finishing the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean) will be the Tim Burton re-imagining of the classic vampire soap opera Dark Shadows.

Apparently, Johnny Depp loved Dark Shadows show as a child and has been pushing the project with Burton's help for quite a few years. The film will start production April 2011.

Depp will portray Barnabas Collins, a vampire living in a Maine manor who is searching for his lost love.
If you're like me and you've I'never seen Dark Shadows here is some information about the series (which by the way seems like a much better show than Days of Our Lives, All My Children, etc.):
Dark Shadows is a gothic soap opera that originally aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971. The show was created by Dan Curtis, who tells of a dream he had in which a girl takes a long train ride to visit a large mansion. The story "bible," which was written by Art Wallace, does not mention any supernatural elements. It was unprecedented in daytime television when ghosts were introduced about six months after it began.
The series became hugely popular when, a year into its run, vampire Barnabas Collins (played by Jonathan Frid) appeared. Dark Shadows also featured werewolves, ghosts, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel (both into the past and into the future), and a parallel universe.
I've had about enough of vampires over the last couple of years, but Depp and Burton do routinely make some unique and unforgettable movies.

What do you guys think? Are we done with vampires? Or is this exciting to you?

You Can Own Michael J. Fox's Self-Lacing Shoes from 'Back to the Future 2'

I wanted a pair of these shoes more than anything in world. Who didn't? Self lacing Nike shoes.  Marty McFly was so damn cool!

Now they could be yours!

Back To The Future producer Bob Gale mentioned recently announced they were auctioning off memorabilia from the movies at Profiles In History.  All proceeds go to charitable foundations like The Michael J. Fox Foundation in their fight against Parkinson's Disease.
This custom made Nike shoe was worn by Michael J. Fox as "Marty McFly" in Back to the Future II. When Doc Brown and Marty arrive in the year 2015, Doc asks Marty to put on clothes similar to Marty Jr. To help him pass for a contemporary teenager, Doc Brown gives Marty the latest in high-tech outerwear. The first thing he puts on is the self-lacing future Nikes.

This particular shoe was specifically made for walking around. Original future Nike 2015 self-lacing shoes are extremely rare and one of the most sought-after props from one of the most iconic Sci-Fi movies ever made.

These shoes are obviously very rare and that comes with a high price tag.  Estimated value of the show is between $12,000-$15,000 (Hover Board not included).
Head on over to Profiles in History to see all the awesome Back to the Future memorabilia available to buy.
