'True Blood‘s' Manganiello Confirms He's Spoken to (or Begged) WB About Playing Superman

With the news that Zack Snyder won the race to direct the newest Superman movie — produced by Christopher Nolan, written by David S. Goyer, and aiming for a holiday 2012 release — now comes the next, biggest round of wild media speculation: Who should don the Man of Steel’s red and blue tights?

Tom Welling (my first choice), John Hamm, Dwayne Johnson (absurd), Brandon Routh, John Cena are just a few that have been rumored to play the most powerful man on the planet.

No it appears we can add another name to the list, True Blood's Joe Manganiello. (Full disclosure, I don't watch True Blood so it is difficult for me to speak about Manganiello's acting credentials.  My buddies tell me I should watch True Blood because it has hot women, nudity and vampires which is a pretty damn good trifecta.)

According to MovieHole Manganiello has been telling anyone with a set of ears since late spring how badly he wants to play Superman for Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan. Now, according to True-Blood.net, Manganiello once again revealed his desire to hang on a wire harness for hours on end as the Man of Steel at a convention this past weekend.  He, however, added a bombshell – he's actually met with the filmmakers this time.

Not too long after word spread of his candidacy, he clarified the matter on Twitter with these remarks:
"Just to be clear... as of today, I am not 'negotiating' to play SuperMan"
"...but keep your fingers crossed and thanks for the wishful thinking!"
Another day another rumor about the Superman reboot.  What do you think about Joe Manganiello being the next Man of Steel?

NYCC 10 - Geoff Johns Announces Two DC Comics Movies Per Year!

Good news from NYCC. Apparently Geoff Johns has announced that we will be seeing two DC comic book movies per year from now on.

We knew that DC/WB were planning to ramp up their comic book movie output once The harry Potter franchise ended next year. But it looks like those plans include quite a few more movies than we figured.
Cinema Blend  reports that DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns expects two DC properties to hit theaters every year after the end of the Harry Potter franchise. The second most successful franchise of all time, the Harry Potter films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the box office since 2001 and each averages about $285 million. Naturally, the end of the series leaves a big whole in the pocket of the studio, and, apparently, they believe that their comic book rights are the perfect remedy.

We know we have the Superman reboot on the way, Batman 3 and of course Green Lantern and its potential sequels as well as a Flash movie. But so far nothing else has really been discussed, let alone confirmed. We already heard from Johns earlier when he reiterated that a Justice League movie wouldn't seem to be on the cards anytime soon.

Natalie Portman as Lois Lane in Upcoming Superman Reboot?

Christopher Gilbreth of Collider reports that Natalie Portman might be the new Lois Lane in the reboot of the Superman franchise. The common thread to this rumor, as with current details surrounding Superman: The Man of Steel, is visionary director Darren Aronofsky. Portman and Aronofsky recently collaborated on the director’s upcoming thriller, Black Swan, which has been attracting buzz like the Tea Party attracts middle aged Caucasian women with political aspirations.

I know this is only a rumor and most likely an untrue rumor at that but a man can dream.  We have yet to have a sexy and beautiful woman portray Lois Lane in a Superman movie. Margot Kidder and Kate Bosworth are fine people but not exactly my pick for Lois Lane.  Natalie on the other-hand is a very good choice in my opinion.  Let's hope this is one rumor that comes true in Hollywood.

Warner Bros. Searching for Director for SUPERMAN Reboot Movie

Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas have started interviewing directors for the upcoming Superman reboot, reports Deadline.

The rumored list includes Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code), Jonathan Liebesman (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Battle: Los Angeles and just-signed for Clash of the Titans 2), Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In), Tony Scott (True Romance, Unstoppable), and Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300).

The article suggests that a decision will be made in the next few weeks so that production on the project can be fast-tracked to make a 2012 release.

Whom would you like to see take the helm as the director to the Superman Reboot?
