Mattel Releases More "Mego" Type Retro DC Action Figures Including Darkseid & Black Adam

I had several Mego action figures (won't call them dolls) growing up.  If only I had not destroyed them in my  childhood.  Throwing, tying, hanging, jumping, shooting, etc. did not allow my Mego figures to stand the test of time.

Thankfully, Mego-style dolls (action figures) have experienced a resurgence thanks to Mattel's World's Greatest DC Heroes line, which has released many DC Comics heroes and villains that never saw the light of day under Mego. In addition to Captain Marvel (aka Shazam) the line will see the first appearance of Black Adam, Martian Manhunter and my personal all-time favorite character, Darkseid.

Dolls, I mean action figures never looked so AWESOME!  What DC character would you like to see become a retro figure? I'd like Ra's Al Guhl.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse NEW Animated Clip & Images

Batman/Superman: Public Enemies was one of the best DC animated films to date and Gfest expects the follow-up animated movie Superman/Batman: Apocalypse to be even better. Batman, Superman, Supergirl and my all-time favorite Darksied - It don't get any better.

I was so excited that Warner Home Video released these images and a sneak peek from the upcoming Superman/Batman: Apocalypse animated movie. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy for Darkseid!

In Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor — leading Batman and Superman to encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.
Fan favorites Tim Daly (Private Practice) and Kevin Conroy (China Beach) return to their seminal roles as Superman and Batman, respectively. The celebrity-laden guest cast is headed by Andre Braugher (Men of a Certain Age) as the daunting Darkseid. Sci-Fi heroine Summer Glau (Serenity/Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) provides the voice of Supergirl, and seven-time Emmy Award winner Ed Asner (Up) reprises his Superman: The Animated Series/Justice League role as Granny Goodness.

Smallville: Official Detailed Description of Season 10 (Return of Pa Kent & the Darkseid Invasion)

In the midst of this turmoil, a new danger will emerge as a dark force takes on many faces, threatening Clark at every turn. Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), and Jonathan Kent (John Schneider), Clark's late, adopted father - forever and always Clark's moral compass, will stand by Clark's side as he takes his final steps toward accepting his birthright. He will need all the help he can get to fight the impending evil onslaught...the greatest darkness ever unleashed on Earth.
The season ten premiere, "Lazarus," opens mere seconds after last season's finale. Clark Kent wakes from his near-death experience, haunted by the ghosts of his past, both friend and foe. Given a new lease on life, Clark must find a way to rid himself of every last temptation, to purge himself of every last shard of doubt in his heart before he can become the beacon of hope the world needs. But a very real threat from Clark's past has returned to challenge his ascent, causing Clark to question the nature of his crusade.

Lois Lane will face her own crisis of meaning, trying to redefine her place in the world now that she knows Clark's super secret - but Clark won't discover that she knows, and that's the way she wants to keep it. Lois will try her best to keep the mild-mannered reporter at arms' length in the hopes that a life free of romantic complication will make him a better hero.
Struggling with her own affairs of the heart, Chloe Sullivan will be faced with an impossible question - how much is she truly willing to sacrifice to protect the people she loves? Chloe will take a tumultuous step into danger for the greater good, the hands of Fate, her only guide.

When Chloe vanishes, Oliver Queen will be forced to look long and hard at the circumstances behind it. Blaming himself for her disappearance, Oliver will begin exploring accountability for all his past actions, good and bad - what great lengths will Oliver go to in order to bring his lost love back home?
Having risked her own life in an attempt to become accountable for her own misguided actions, no one is more surprised than Tess Mercer when she wakes, alive and well, in a seemingly abandoned medical facility. But what secrets lie in wait in the recesses of "Cadmus Labs"? And how much is Tess willing to give up to seize her second chance at redemption?

Lastly, Two guest stars have been revealed for the third season 10 episode of Smallville titled "Supergirl" if not sooner.  Michael Daingerfield will be playing Gordon Godfrey in the upcoming season and Steve Byers will be playing Darkseid minion Desaad.

Preview: BATMAN #701 'R.I.P.The Missing Chapter'

Thank God and issue of BATMAN with the real Batman.  Maybe we will actually get an issue of ACTION COMICS that contains Superman himself.

I am excited to read these next few issues of the Grant Morrison's BATMAN to find-out what happened to Bruce Wayne prior to getting hit with Darkseid's Omega Sanction in FINAL CRISIS #6.  I know the percentage if being extremely disappointed is very high, but I have faith.

The good news is Major Spoilers got a sneak peak of BATMAN #701.  Enjoy the preview.

New 75th Anniversary DC Variant Cover Featuring the Joker!!

Gfest announced earlier in the week that as part of a line-wide celebration of DC Comics’ 75th, they will be rolling out a number of special variant covers by some of the biggest names in the industry.

But these aren’t standard variants. No, these covers will take a classic image from DC’s illustrious history and present a new, re-imagined version by an all-star list of artists. To date, DC has unveiled a look at Mike Mingola’s take on the classic Detective Comics #168 cover, Eduardo Risso's take on Superman #233 and Lee Bermejo's Legion of Super-Heroes #294.

Yesterday, DC rolled out a classic cover to the Jerry Robinson’s Detective Comics #69 cover. This cover features  a looming Joker hovering over the Dynamic Duo.

The reinterpreted cover of  Detective Comics #69 is recreated by Walt Simonson and will serve as the variant to Detective Comics #866.

Return of Bruce Wayne Takes Detour at Jersey Shore?

The folks at topspeed.com have found the Dark Knight, as you can see in this picture of him driving on the New Jersey Turnpike.  Wow, that trip through time that Darkseid sent Batman on at the end of FINAL CRISIS, just keeps getting stranger.

Caveman Batman, Pirate Batman, Pilgrim Batman, and now Jersey Shore Batman?  In this picture, Bruce Wayne is seen driving in a replica of the 1960’s Batmobile that Adam West made famous.  He even went as far as to dress up a manequin as his beloved Robin to ride shotgun.  Although you can't really blame him for missing Robin.
Poor Bruce Wayne.  Darkseid's Omega Sanction is a thousand times more cruel than gfest could have ever imagined.  I mean, Batman had to fight his way through the Jersey Shore.  Even DESAAD might think that's over the top.

First Look at Caveman Batman - The Return of Bruce Wayne

By now you know that Gfest loves the real Batman not the artificial, whiny cretin that presently occupies the cape and cowl.

Final Crisis #6 was a bitter sweet moment for Gfest.  Batman took down the most powerful New God, Darkseid but was immediately thumped by the Omega Sanctions and presumed dead.

Your friends at Gfest (and the real Robin, Tim Drake), being well versed in all things Kirby, knew that Batman was not dead but forced to live a never ending series different lives with no knowledge of his prior being.

Next week it all changes (AT LAST) and we finally get the real Batman, Bruce Wayne back into the DC Universe.  It starts with Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne, the mini-series from writer Grant Morrison.

Promising to bring Bruce Wayne back to the DCU, the mini-series traces what happened to the Dark Knight after he was presumed dead, but apparently traveled through time.

And it all starts with Caveman Batman.

Since each issue of The Return of Bruce Wayne will be drawn by a different artist, the first look at the character's journey will be drawn by Chris Sprouse, who is establishing Issue #1's setting in prehistoric times.

Die, Die, Die for Darkseid!

This is what I imagine Earth to resemble once Darkseid, the Lord of Apocalypse, comes to enslave us all!  It's much more frightening and realistic than Grant Morrison's take via Final Crisis.   I guess it is the lack of cosmic vampires, 3d glasses, and stories about stories.

Regardless, if you're a comic book geek like your friends at Gfest take a few minutes to head over to the U.K. Telegraph to see some amazing pictures of Iceland's volcano erupting in all its beautiful glory.
