Who Wore it Better? - SDCC Wonder Woman Edition

Gfest loves the San Diego Comic Con.  And despite what the rest of the world actually thinks about the attendees, there are tons of hotties who attend the Con.  And a whole bunch of them come in costume, very skimpy costumes.  So it's time to play everyone's favorite game:  Who Wore It Better?

Today we pick out two people who dressed as Wonder Woman.  But who wore that costume better?  Diana #1 (from behind) or Diana #2 (from the front).

Two Princess Leia's in Golden Bikinis Are So Much Better Than One

Once you get past all of the news and excitement of Comic Con, you then get to enjoy the best side benefit

of Comic Con in San Diego.  And that is clearly hotties in slutty costumes. 

Many times those costumes are from some random obscure character from girlie manga book that no one else on the planet reads.  Girls, at the end of the day, that's just a waste of effort on your part.  Instead, go classic.  The Princess Leia costume is like the little black dress of cosplay - it never disappoints. 

Having said that, these two have taken it up a notch, because the only thing better than Princess Leia in the golden bikini is two Princess Leia's in golden bikinis.  Well done ladies. 

Next year try kissing each other in those same outfits, and maybe visiting a tanning booth.

Cartoon Network's YOUNG JUSTICE Looks Damn Good

I am the first to admit that I was not overly excited for the new Young Justice animated show coming to Cartoon Network.  I am not a huge Teen Titans fan nor did I get overly excited by run of Young Justice from 1998-2003.  I prefer the Justice League or the "big dogs" to the likes of Kid Flash, Miss Martian, Artemis, and Aqualad.

I am now prepared to eat crow after watching this fantastic preview of Young Justice narrated by Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti, the producers of the show.

WB wants MAD MEN'S Jon Hamm as Next Superman

We already know that Christopher Nolan is producing, David Goyer writing and Jonah Nolan possibly heading-up the next Superman movie. But, we do not know the answer to the biggest question for the December 2012 reboot, Who will be the new Superman?

Since the confirmation of a new Superman movie a plethora of names have been rumored to become the Man of Steel.  According to Comic Book Movie, thirty-nine year, old Mad Men star (and Lex Luthor in hilarious funny or die video), Jon Hamm is being seriously considered for the role of Superman.

Hamm certainly looks the part of Clark Kent and does a wonderful job on Mad Men.  I just don't know if a 40 year old can pull of the Man of Steel.  Then again, Harrison Ford is still playing a bad-ass at sixty-eight years of age and Robert Downey Junior is doing a fantastic job as Tony Stark in the Iron Man films at age forty-five.

In the end I highly doubt Hamm is the choice especially if you look at the longevity of the project.  We must assume that Warner Bros. will want more than one Superman film.  We will most likely see a trilogy and hopefully at least one Justice League movie.  That puts Hamm at over 50 before the run may end.

All we can do is wait and see.

STAR WARS Death Star as Envisioned in Pixar's UP

zero-lives on flickr posted these very funny pictures of Carl from UP as Darth Vader and the Death Star being propelled by a bunch of balloons.  I like Darth Carl it seems to fit him well.  I can see if crushing Russell's wind-pipe and using the Force to vault Doug halfway across the universe.

Grant Morrison's Joe The Barbarian to Become a Movie

The film rights for Grant Morrison's Joe The Barbarian comic book have been picked up by Thunder Road Pictures, according to Morrison, who broke the news today to Robot6.


Thunder Road Picture is the studio that put out the Clash of the Titans this year, so they don't exactly have a lot of experience making good movies. 

Joe the Barbarian is set in the mind of a boy who is having some very real world problems, and the movie will need a very skilled director to portray the subtlety and nuance of this series.  In addition, Grant Morrison is not writing the screenplay, which is strike two against this project.
Strike three is that this comic book mini-series is getting picked up for a film adaptation before its completion.  I suspect that even though the movie rights have been picked up, it may be a long, long time before we ever see it in theatres.  If we ever do.

Was Chloe Sullivan the Worst Announcement at SDCC?

Let me first start by stating I am a fan of Smallville.  Like many Superman and comic book fans, Smallville is extremely frustrating at times and the nine year run has been, at times, hard to watch.  The "no tights, no flights" motto always pissed me off, but I stuck with it because, well, it's Superman.

Back in 2007, there was talk of Smallville's Chloe Sullivan making the jump from the long-running TV show to the comics world. Thankfully, it ended up not happening at the time.

I cannot stand the character of Chloe Sullivan (I do NOT have a problem with Allison Mack) mainly because she does not fit into the Superman world.  She was a friend of high school Clark Kent, but now that we are in the Metropolis her character does not work in the story.  She has become the Oracle of Metropolis and the leader of the quasi "Justice League."  I find that to be very, very annoying.
So when I heard the announcement that Chloe will appear in the Jimmy Olsen co-feature that's debuting in Action Comics #893 and being written by Nick Spencer a little piece of me died.  Damn you Chloe.  You escaped death too many times.

Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour Sells 100,000 Copies in 3 Days

Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour, the sixth and final volume of Bryan Lee O'Malley's award-winning series, sold out of its initial 100,000-copy printing at the distributor level within a few days of its release last week.

Oni Press plans a quick 50,000-copy second printing, with the possibility of additional copies if they're needed.

Edgar Wright's film adaptation of the series, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, opens on Aug. 13.

Was the Incredible Hulk Once a Green Lantern?

Some might say that the mighty Hulk is the original Green Lantern, Gfest doesn't.  Hal Jordan would kick Hulk's ass from here to Planet Hulk.

However, Red Hulk does seem like he would be a pretty good fit for the Red Lantern Corps.

Snoopy Finally Has Had Enough of Woodstock

Scott Stulen produced this wonderfully clever, funny, and sad painting entitled, "Unfriended."  I have to admit that I never fully understood the Snoopy and Woodstock relationship.   It seemed to be a little weird.

Woodstock should have known he was constantly rolling the dice being friends with a dog.  Dogs like to chase smaller animals and from my Peanuts experience, Woodstock was not that swift or agile.  Only a matter of time.

I like the idea of Batman being in a cowboy setting.  It's like Bruce Wayne is the Roland Deschain of his own Dark Tower series - Batman:  The Last Gunslinger.  This is the first issue of Grant Morrison's Bruce Wayne arc that I have been excited about.

Halloween in July - the Avatar BodyPaint Costume

Forget Christmas in July, Halloween in July is where all the action is at.  We suspect that Avatar costumes will probably spring up everywhere this October, because its been a while since the ladies have had a new option in the "slutty costume" category. 

They'll be hard pressed to do better than this entry, which is truly fantastic.  And if the costume works properly, it also has the ability to give some lucky guy blue balls as well!
