We've all played the "if you could be a superhero, which one would you be" game. Batman, Superman and Iron Man are all popular choices, but maybe you should start saying Starman. Because the Starman legacy started by Ted Knight may actually be possible.
Harnessing energy from stars may seem like something only possible in comic books, but that's exactly what scientists are attempting to achieve as they use the worlds largest laser in an attempt to grasp the holy grail of energy: nuclear fusion.
According to scientists at a government lab in Livermore, CA, all we need to do in order to save our planet from its energy woes is create a star here on Earth. It’s that simple! All joking aside, researchers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are 100% serious and believe they’ve come up with a way to use the world’s largest laser (it’s about 3 football fields long) to trigger a nuclear reaction so powerful that it will make a star form right on the surface of the Earth. If successful, the mini-star and will solve our power issues with near limitless energy.
Now let's just hope none of these scientists are mad / evil.
