PopCap to Bring Successful Game Franchises to Facebook

PopCap, the makers of such popular games as Peggle, Bejeweled and Blitz, will be bringing a new “Blitz” style game to the social networking giant Facebook. John Vechey, co-founder of PopCap was asked whether we’d be seeing more Facebook games from the company, given the success of “Bejeweled Blitz.”  Vechey replied:

“We’re definitely doing another ‘Blitz’ game, but we’re also doing some pretty experimental games.”

He also made it clear that it won’t be a sequel to the successful Bejewled Blitz, instead confirming that it will be one of their other franchises that fits the “Blitz” model, which will feature short play sessions, leaderboards and, as with most apps on Facebook, online achievements.

PopCap also plans to bring many other successful existing franchises on to the social networking site as well throughout the year.

Seeing as PopCap is full of casual games that are more addictive than crack, I can see Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies making their way onto Facebook - as I’m sure many out of 200 plus million users would be willing to pay a dollar or two for them.
