Amazing result, but the accompanying "making of" video is very interesting.  Was surprised how much measuring and math seems to go into making of these pieces of sidewalk art. 

Jim Lee draws Batman on the iPad

How can you not love this man?  Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, Joker, etc. all on the iPad  for our viewing pleasure.  Well now Jim has provided us with a wonderful drawing of Batman, the iPad edition.

Here is what Jim Lee tweeted,

"This is a very sped up clip of me messing around on my iPad. Original video was 20 mins in length; it usually takes me about 60-80 mins to get one of these pieces done using @sketchbookpro. I prefer using my finger to a stylus of any sort--makes it more fun. I honestly have to say this piece was not going in the direction I wanted so I stopped and got back to real work : ) but you get a general sense of how I layer on colors and work positive and negative shapes back and forth to get edges...like in painting."

The History of Batman Symbol Makes me Batty

TheDoLittle at 9GAG posted this simple but fascinating picture (or scribble) entitled, "The History of Bats."  It is such a simple piece of art but yet it is so mesmerizing.  If you look close enough you can make-out various Batman symbols through the years.  Truly amazing.  I could not find the original artist, please let us know whom to give credit where credit is definitely due.

Christopher Lee's He-Man Art, Entitled, "Mr. Villains Class of 1983" is in a Class By Itself

Each and every time I stumble upon a piece of art by Christopher Lee, I am taken back at the simplistic beauty and creativity of his drawings.  Now, Christopher has blessed me two-fold - his beautiful art combined with one of my favorite all-time animated shows, He-Man.

This work entitled, "Mr. Villains Class of 1983" is power of Grayskulltastc and worthy of MOTU fame!  Although, Eternia High looks like a big old sausage fest.  At least the Sorceress is a pretty nice piece of  cougar ass!

Rivet Gallery in Columbus, Ohio invited me to participate in their group art show entitled "We'll Be Right Back...After These Messages". The show pays homage to the classic cartoons of the 80's and early 90's. Those two time periods were the prime of my childhood, so I created a piece that showcases one of my favorite shows from that era...He-Man and The Masters of the Universe. I've been dying to do a fan piece for a while now so this was the perfect way to celebrate nostalgia. This is a giclée print made in a edition of 50.

Phil Jones designed this awesome t-shirt featuring a pun of the famous shot from the movie ET.  It's called "Extreme Terrestrial" and you can purchase it at Phil's store. 

Megan Fox as Mega woMAN

Spacecoyote (real name Nina Matsumoto) created this unusual caricature of Megan Fox as Mega Man. Nina  says she was inspired to create this unique work because, "Every time I try to search for "Mega Man", Google pulls up "Megan Fox" first. Why not combine the two, then?"

Star Wars Art - "Tatooine Tone" Clever, Funny and Beautiful

Otis Frampton created this beautiful and funny Star Wars picture entitled, "Tatooine Tone."  The inspiration for the ad is the old Coppertone baby ad.  Looks like Yoda is pondering taking a look under the old loin cloth. It's a wonderful concept with a good amount of pop culture injected into it.  Great Job Otis!

Mike Mitchell's "NES Boy" Artwork is Nintendoreffic

We've featured artist Mike Mitchell numerous times on gblog.  His artwork is beautiful, very creative and usually pretty damn funny.  His most recent piece of art is entitled, "1985" (or as it it has also been called "NES Boy") is no exception.

Mike claims on his website, "that this particular piece of art is a quasi self portrait of my formative years."

I think this picture speaks volumes to million so of us out there that spent our youth just like Mike.  Gfest loves it!

Private Rooftop Invitational: Martian Manhunter by Paul Milligan

More than a year ago, Dean Trippe began contacting some frequent art contributors for a special project: the first ever Project: Rooftop Invitational, a massive jam redesign of a superhero team. This being his first try at anything like this, it took a while to select and confirm the artist roster, as well as their individual choices of team members to redesign from the chosen super-team, the Justice League of America!

Paul Milligan designed this his version of Martian Manhunter for Project Rooftop.  It's awesome.

Scott Pilgrim vs. Space

Alas, it’s not an announcement of a seventh volume for Bryan Lee O’Malley’s seminal series, nor a sequel to Edgar Wright’s genuinely excellent movie adaptation. But it is a pretty sweet pin-up of Scott Pilgrim, Gideon Graves, and an intimidating Ramona Flowers by John Kantz, art assistant on the series’ sixth and final volume, Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour.

Coolest Super Mario Bros. Artwork to Date

LabrenzInk created this marvelous piece of art appropriately entitled, "The Mario Bros."  I love the realism and detail.  The Bowser is by far the best rendition I have seen to date.  Head to his site over at deviantART site to check this and many more wonderful creations.

Big Superheros + Small Heads = Beautiful Art

I doing my daily run down of comic related news when I stumbled upon a post from Comics Alliance (one of my favorite sites) about Patricio Betteo and his art.  I was captivated by these shrunken head superheros.  The small heads, elongated bodies and use of bright colors makes these unique superhero prints a must have for any collector.

The explorations on Betteo's deviantART account contain a lot of the same faces that other superhero-fan artists tackle on the site, like Iron Man, Hellboy and The Joker. Fortunately,  Betteo also incorporated one of my favorite all-time books into his one-of-a-kind art - BONE.  I love the piece with Rose and Fone Bone.  His Spider-Man meeting a fly scene is also extremely creative and very well done.

Real Life Darkwing Duck

Gfest is a big fan of Mike Mitchell.  His blog is full of interesting items and more importantly his art is top notch.  Like, this wonderful real life rendition of Darkwing Duck.  It's perfect and hilarious.  “I am the terror that flaps in the night. I am Darkwing Duck”

Collection of Sad Superheroes

I am not quite sure what to make of this, but art is art especially when it comes to anything superhero related.

These tearful superheroes are photographer Nicolas Silberfaden’s latest art project, as he attempts to depict “a sombre, striking visual image that contradicts the iconic nature of strength and moral righteousness typical in American superhero imagery.”

BJP-Online has a nice writeup about Nicolas Silberfaden, who recently gained attention photographing paparazzi by pretending to be one.

Now he’s showing the sad side of superheroes as way to portray the tough economic times that America is facing.

“Making the subjects pose in their costumes against a colourful backdrop, I ask them to manifest feelings of genuine sadness – honest emotions that are a consequence of our current times. Creating the illusion that Superman does exist – that he too was fallible and affected by America’s traumatic downturn.”
